Well, broke in my new grill, thought I'd share a few pics. Gonna have to get used to this one, as it cooks a bit hotter that I was expecting, even with all vents closed. Everything turned out okay, just a bit more char than I like. I got the grill as a belated Father's Day gift to myself, modified it a bit to install the utensil hanger, and to make the racks removable without sliding them to one end.

All in all, was a good day, but damned it got hot around 3pm. lol

Dunno what your situation at the apartment is, but if that includes utilities, still a good deal. I wouldn't have a house except for the whole married with kids thing. I loved living in apartments, no work outside to be done, when something goes wrong, you call someone and they fix it, no cost to you....

I got pre-approved on Friday for up to $200K on a 30 year fixed at 3.25%

Nope, doesn't include utilities...and don't get me wrong, I'm still pro-apartment, but with the number of empty houses here and being able to get a mortgage that will be quite a bit less than my rent, I can't not buy right now.

I'm somewhat split on whether you should be soaking your wood chips or not. I used to say you want to soak them if you're going to smoke but recently I've been told that when you soak them, most of what you get in the beginning is steam and not wood smoke. The idea is to control your heat so as to let the chips slowly smoulder.

This was a first for me using chips. I'm going to try dry chips along edges of coals next time. Should work better.

Amen to that...that looked delicious. I need a new regulator valve on my BBQ...it has never worked right since day 1. I didn't know better when I bought it and now it's way out of warranty.

I cooked on a gas grill for years (wore out about 3 of them) and was seriously considering a combo gas/wood/charcoal grill for my new purchase, but couldn't resist the price for this one at Lowes. Normally $199, but for the 4th, they had the floor models (scratched/dented, etc.) for $125. Just couldn't pass that up.

Went to Famous Dave's on the 4th with the girlie....we got their "Meal for Two"...served on an upside down garbage can lid :lol:

Parks around here usually have pits built in at the campsites. City type parks (no camping) cooking isn't allowed as far as I know. The land you see is mine. I have 3 acres.

I marinated some pork chops in pineapple juice(and spices) and cooked them on the grill. Tender and juicy!
I got the idea from eating tacos al pastore at a Mexican restaurant. The pork in them was marinated in pineapple juice and they were delicious.

The Dry rub? I used a store bought mix. I'll look this evening and get the name if you like. It was pretty good. I'd never done dry rub before, but will be experimenting with making my own soon.
Just remember if you are doing pork ribs to trim the layer of membrane/fat/skin off the back side.

You know, thats one thing I dont think I ever do.. But the ribs are from Costco and I dont remember seeing that.. I'll look and be sure too though.
I want something special on my ribs this time.. Something bursting with flavor..

I'll look and see what the brand/ingredients are. I liked it. Another tip is to make sure your meat(s) are room temp well before putting them on grill.
