All they check for here in Colorado is emissions.

Anything over 3 years old has to be tested yearly over here for a wild variety of things:

Lighting and signalling equipment
Steering (including suspension)
Brakes
Tyres and wheels
Seat belts
Body, structure and general items[clarification needed]
Exhaust, fuel and emissions
Driver's view of the road

We had safety checks like that in Vermont, we had to have the vehicles inspected every year.

So it's different from State to State then? :-k

Teh One Who Knocks

Yeah, each state's DMV (department of motor vehicles) decides the rules and regulations, no federal laws concerning safety or emissions that I know of, everything is set by each state.

Yeah, each state's DMV (department of motor vehicles) decides the rules and regulations, no federal laws concerning safety or emissions that I know of, everything is set by each state.

Here even some individual counties have different rules, I don't know if the state decided that rural counties don't need an emissions check or what but I could easily register a vehicle to my vaca spot on the island (same state different county) and would not need the test.

That's the same way here, only the 7 metro Denver counties require emissions testing.

Made it to Ardmore. Someone said they don't envy all the driving I do. Actually, that's the easiest money I make. I get the standard IRS deduction amount per mile (currently 56.5 cents/mile) plus hourly pay either regular or OT depending.
Gonna have a couple beers and watch the football game. Been listening to the DC shooting all day. Tired of the news.

Up on the island there is no law enforcement presence from Labor day to Memorial day, things like driving laws tend to go right out the window. You'll often see kids as young as 10-12 driving the family golf cart on public roads. (carts are inspected and plated like any motor vehicle). Pretty much the small presence of residents look after themselves.

Pony
09-17-2013, 12:00 PM
About 5 years ago the state decided they all needed to be legal vehicles. Signals, headlights, seatbelts, inspections and plates. The cart rental companies on the islands had a fit having to pay to get thousands of carts upgraded and licensed.

Teh One Who Knocks
09-17-2013, 12:03 PM

As far as I know, the golf carts here are not street legal, never seen one with plates or lights or anything.

Same with any 4 wheeler or anything else you want to drive on public roads. for a small group of islands they really do police it now, 99% of the island DUI's are tourists on rented carts.

You would be surprised what a bunch of drunken kids can do with one, Roll them over, play smash em up with multiple carts,etc... most of the rental carts are governed to 15-20MPH but that's still fast enough to cause some damage to people or property. Last spring some Yahoos took out half a dozen very old grapevines belonging to the local winery, can't really put a value on the damage as they were irreplaceable.

Did the ones for my truck last month. Wasn't too bad, right around $800 all done. Unfortunately, I can't buy them locally any more, so looking for a decent replacement.

I tried Bridgestone for the first time on my truck. These had a 65,000 mile warranty, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Got about 6,000 miles on them so far, and they handle great in the rain and on gravel roads. Good dry traction too.

The problem with wife's car is the odd ball size. 225/45/19. Not a popular size so pricing is more than normal. The original tires were Goodyear RSA that were horrible, and only lasted 25,000 miles. I went with Continental DWS in a 245/50/19 and got about 45,000 miles out of them, and loved the way they drove and handled.

Okay so far, but gonna be another busy day....put in 11 hours yesterday and probably be about the same today :wha:

How about you?

Goofy
09-24-2013, 11:35 AM
It was looking a bit quieter yesterday but that soon changed  Just getting sick of people making fuck-ups which end up costing me time

Got my new SSD installed on sunday - went with the samsung  Running nice and fast now  Signed up to another ISP about ten days ago (previous ISP was great but unfortunately had a download limit of 30gb during peak times - never used to go close to the limit at all but after getting netflix i hit the limit last month  Moved to BT unlimited) and the transfer date was yesterday. Came home at lunchtime and was going to log in to my work email account to get a better look at some crash images i'd been sent.......... but no internet access :wha: Checked my email on my phone and BT had sent me an email to say the transfer had been completed.......... only the muppets hadn't sent me the router settings  I suppose most folk who sign up to them just take the option of the BT Home Hub which will already be set-up and just plug and play - they wanted an extra £20 or so for it so i said i'd just use my own since it's a pretty new one anyway and better specs than their one. Anyway, couldn't be arsed phoning them and speaking to some clown in India who's reading from a script so sent them a nicely worded email from work  Seemed to do the trick, they replied with the router settings within 20 mins or so

Haven't had a chance to grab Breaking Bad yet though :freakout:

Teh One Who Knocks
09-24-2013, 11:38 AM
Nice, did you get better speeds too or just unlimited data?

The new BB was awesome as usual

Goofy
09-24-2013, 11:42 AM
My speeds are pretty much maxed out due to our broadband still being on the old copper lines :( Unlimited data, cheaper than my previous ISP plus i get the two BT Sports tv channels free now too  Was always afraid to change ISP previously since it took me quite a few attempts to find a good, reliable one - would've stayed with them if they could've given me unlimited data but alas they said they couldnt :( They did offer me a couple of great deals but i really need the unlimited data now for netflix!

Goofy
09-24-2013, 11:42 AM
I keep wanting to click on the Breaking Bad thread......... must resist

Teh One Who Knocks
09-24-2013, 11:45 AM

Goofy
09-24-2013, 11:55 AM
Seeing as i dont have any download cap now, think i better grab the 720p version  Downloading now through mipony, speeds seem similar to before, maybe slightly faster

Well, back from the Doctor. Intestinal virus all cleared up now. While I was there, got checked out for heartburn. It's been almost constant lately (after eating or alcohol) Doctor didn't do the scope down my throat. At this point he just recommended trying to limit intake of what is bothering me, but mostly try to reduce the size of my gut/waist, which is putting pressure on my stomach, causing the valve to leak.
So, looks like I'll be trying to find, at least to start with, a low impact regime to get to the point where I can start getting back in shape. I'm thi8nking about starting with the basics, push ups, sit ups, etc.

 Kev, that shaolin "yi jin jing" (muscle-tendon changing) practice actually starts out with slapping the gut just below the navel. Not hard slap to start out with, but the intensity slowly increases with the training...extrapolate to the point of withstanding spears in the throat hahaha...but the early stages can be effective without going too deeply into the training to the point where tools and hard hits are used.

As such, things like jumping jacks, shaking, even abdominal breathing will help get rid of the gut. Crunches, leg lifts, twists...all good stuff. Actually the abdominal breathing would be a low level assist for the heartburn, moving the diaphragm properly gives the internal organs a good massage. Cardio helps but if you dont focus on the core exercise then it wont necessarily target that area....target what you want to target.

If you want to add in diet crazy, try doing the 2 week induction phase for something like atkins? where you strip all carbs and sugars out. The carbs if not used are the most quickly converted to abdominal fat.

Good luck homey! I am always vigilant where the gut is concerned, my back is too precarious for me to gain weight, it will hurt, and relatively quickly if I gain even 5 pounds in the gut.

Got an email earlier from Steve Beaton's wife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Beaton) - he's a pro darts player and ex World Champion. Very good chance we're gonna be staging a darts exhibition night next year as his prices are reasonable :D

Teh One Who Knocks
09-27-2013, 11:51 AM
His prices? Prices for what? :-k

Goofy
09-27-2013, 11:54 AM
The pro players charge money for exhibition nights, they'll come up to your pub or club, set up a full stage with dartboard, tvs, cameras etc and you get a pro MC to call the matches. They typically play 20 legs of 501 vs audience members and do trick shots etc - been to a couple before and they're fucking great nights  Beaton is meant to be one of the best for it, great with the crowds etc and a great laugh so should be a cracking night provided we decide to go for it :)
