Sitting at a hole in the wall burger joint near Gardendale, TX. Awesome burgers here, the old time kind where the grease runs down your hands while you are eating it. Yum!

Yep, and the elderly lady that runs the joint remembered me from last time I was there (last year sometime) and doubled up on the fries. Real fries too, not frozen. I'm stuffed.
Waiting on a call back right now, may have to go pick up a 50hp electric motor to take to a rig near Pecos, Tx (about 2hrs from here) That'll be an easy 5 extra hours on timesheet today.

How did it go at work? Are you still going to be working under that bitch?

I went off during the first conversation then got a call from her boss. I am still going to work for her, but he's going to talk to her. I made it clear I would no longer tolerate being treated that way and didn't care of they had to fire me or I had to quit but I was done putting up with it.

Teh One Who Knocks
01-15-2014, 12:35 PM
Well, at least you got the ball rolling by stating your case to her boss. Hopefully that will help. And if she even appears to be getting ready to cross the line again, I would go over her head once again.

Thanks. I doubt she'll get fired and I don't want her to lose her job. But she needs to learn to be human. It's a growth capacity issue also. Not mine to say but I think they are at their limits administratively while still growing. They need to fix that.

not in the same sense as humans, it takes guts (literally) to feel emotion in the same sense we're familiar with. so imagine the concept but devoid of any actual feeling.

Was playing around with my Samsung SSD last night - stuck it in the dock and did a checkdisk on it (found and fixed bad sectors), got the correct samsung/seagate software and tested the shit out of it - passed with flying colours :-k So, formatted it then used software called Macrium Reflect to clone the contents of this drive over to the SSD. Everything seemed to go ok so i'll swap them over tonight and see if it works! Just can't get used to hearing this mechanical drive making noise

Is Samsung still the top reated SSD? I decided instead of putting my old sandisk in the new laptop I'm just gonna fork out another 100 bucks and get a new one. The Sandisk is SATA ll (3GB/sec) and the new ones are SATA lll (6GB/sec).

The Sandisk is fine and fast but with the specs on this laptop I wanna make the best use of the processing power.

DGX was right, a 5400 speed disk is shit for an OS drive, the new laptop with a Quad Core I7 isn't any faster than the old Dual Core I3 I just sold.

Currently fighting with my SSD, for some reason the computer isn't seeing the USB recovery drive on boot.

With Windows 8 they increased the experience index from a max of 7.9 to 9.9.

My new laptop had 7.9's for processor and memory, a 6.? for graphics and a 5.4? for hard drive. I don't remember the exact numbers because the update to windows 8.1 got rid of the whole performance test. Bummer, I liked it.

I'm not sure how they calculate....look at mine. 7.9 is the top score...

I have an older Sandy Bridge i5 processor that rates quite high

I have 8 gigs of Kingston 'green' ghetto ram. (literally called value ram ) Certainly not the most or the best but always gets 'my' top marks for timings..

I have an old video card GTX 460...I'm sure there's at least 10 graduations better since that card was made...

and my hard disk drags the whole shootin match down...

http://i.imgur.com/gbmtZlq.jpg

So your 6 on graphics out of 9.9 is a hard score....maybe since WIN8 is newer, they've upped the specs for what they think are 'good graphics'?

I do know however...that out of what was available for the time and my budget limitations, that I chose well and wisely to get a pretty good system together (this from dudes at store where I bought)

Pony
01-18-2014, 07:23 PM
Yea, they upped the specs to reflect the advances in hardware.

Well I just wasted 3 hours I didn't need to. created a recovery USB and tried to use it on the new SSD= "no boot device detected"
Created recovery DVDs thinking it might be a boot from USB issue no boot device detected

Finally broke down and downloaded the Toshiba SSD migration software, put both drives in the laptop, fired it up and 15 minutes later all is good as new.

Now I have to decide if I want to reset it back to factory specs and start over fresh erasing the 3 hours I invested messing with every setting available....

Yea, thats a feature thats usually reserved for the $1400 gaming laptops, I often have my laptop on a box on my lap while watching tv in a dark room, backlit keyboard is a huge perk.

And holy shit, just rebooted for the first time and was back in about 8 seconds from full shutdown. And the SSD will get faster after a few more reboots. :faint:

$100 and this laptop just went from a low budget to priceless speed wise!

do SSD's still have that drawback where they don't rewrite over files or get rid of old files?

they run like snot for the first year and then start getting full? Can't recall the term but it did happen to all of them over time...

I'll tell you what, I've tried a ton of file migration and cloning programs, this was the fastest most automated and easiest thing I've ever done. It auto detected the HDD and SSD and 3 clicks and 15 minutes later it was an exact clone, partitions and all!

I would highly recommend the Toshiba SSDs now, they get highest marks in read AND write with over 500gb/sec both (many others had much slower write times) and with the software you could do it on your lunch break and still have time to eat.

My old laptop and my 1 year old desktop SSDs do not seem to be filling up at all. both still were damn fast. In the old laptop when I took the SSD out and went back to the 5400 HDD it seemed like I had gone from 8 gigs of ram down to 1 gig. No kidding Hal, it REALLY is the #1 upgrade you could do to your computer. And for $100 it's worth every penny.

chain of events/laziness always screws me up

Ok....I've just installed the world of software on my old drive.

I want to install a SSD as the main drive, so into the BIOS I go, do some fiddling, physically attach the drive and move my other drive as a slave or drive 2.

When I go to boot after this, won't the PC need an OS to mount? So it must use windows on drive 2 (my old drive) and then somehow I can migrate the OS and programs onto the new SSD drive?

Wouldn't that make two identical OS's and the next time I boot my PC will blow up?

Pony
01-18-2014, 07:53 PM
I didn't go into the bios at all. Installed the software, cloned the drive, shut down the comp, pulled the HDD out. On reboot it reassigned the SSD as "C"

If you wait a minute I'll throw the HDD back in. It should auto assign it as "F". If not I'll plug it into my dock on the other computer and either format it or take all the windows folders and put them in a folder named "old OS".
Thats what I did with the old laptop and it made it super easy to pull the SSD out and go back to the HDD.

Yeah I can use the software to clone the entire drive to a....external hard drive?....then install the new hardware, migrate the cloned info to the new drive and then windows should allow me to format the old drive, as the new SSD should report as primary C with the OS on it....

You're cloning to an external and then back to the new internal? Should work if you have a spare external to sacrifice. The software needs a raw drive and will erase all files and partitions currently on the drive. I'll have to look again but the software might be specific to Toshiba drives...

...
* Note: This version of NTI Echo 3 is designed to work with Toshiba SSD drives only. Other manufactures drives are not supported in this version.

Yep, It looks like it will clone back to the HDD though, I'll see if I can find a scrap external around somewhere and try and clone the SSD back to an external as a backup.

I did have some hair pulling issues though with the laptop. I made the mistake of putting the new SSD in the primary bay and the HDD in the secondary before cloning. Somehow the software/my laptop switched primary and secondary during the process?? HDD/SSD bay 2 is now primary and the computer will not boot with two hard drives installed even if one is bare. single drive works in either bay. :hmm: And the HDD (also a Toshiba) was not being recognized and showing as offline because of a "signature collision with another disk" Did the software copy the "signature" of the hard drive as well to the SSD??? I forced it online which seems to have changed the signature, working for now but I might get a new bigger internal HDD to put in there and put the current drive in an enclosure or use it for a permanent backup.

 tbh i've tried some of the more expensive brands and i don't see much difference............ possibly due to me lashing chilli sauce/relish on them i suppose  Dinosaur foot shaped pizza anyone?

and like the two brown chuckleheads I work with....they know I like some spicy dishes once in awhile, so they make the curry blistering hot and secretly add gallons of hot sauce, then bring out a little dish for me and they watch me eat it

total assholios :x

Mmmmmm :homer: It's funny, i never used to like spicy food but the older i've got the hotter i like it :) There are limits though, if it's so hot that you lose your sense of taste after a couple of mouthfuls then there's no point to it imho. I love madras generally and i've had a few vindaloos that were pretty tasty but not quite ridiculously hot  Never tried a phall (think thats what its called) which is about the hottest most Indian places around here cook.

Same here, I like it hot, but within reason. When it's just super hot for the sake of being super hot without flavor, then what's the point. Like when I go to BWW for wings and beer to watch a game or something, I tried their hottest sauce once and it was was just ridiculous.

I'd rather have something with flavor. The 2nd from the hottest I can stand, but even that gets too hot by the time you are finished with your wings.

that's why I'm going to invent the coolwater self contained enema underwear

the briefs have a built-in dual applicator that fires 8 ozs of water up your butt, then flushes out the used water through tube two to a handy reservoir that you can empty later

And my tooth is absolutely killing me. Ibuprofen takes the edge off for an hour or two, but then it comes roaring back. I should have taken the earlier appointment today instead of the later one.

Goofy

I think so, after she'd tweaked my shoulder she got me to throw some "air darts" and i felt no pain  She did say it would probably be a bit painful/tender later though! Got instructions to ice it, on for 10 mins then off for 15 mins....... you know how difficult it is to get a bag of frozen peas to stay in the same spot on your back/shoulder?

try having a 10mm gap between teeth and a tooth's root that's exposed under a crown....the pain starts on/in between two teeth and goes right up to the top of my head :(

as long as I don't eat, drink, sleep or open and close my mouth...it's all good

I may try whiskey starting NOW

Goof sometimes injuries like heat rather than ice..

ice = constricts blood vessels

heat = encourages blood flow

I'm sure the person you saw knows better than me....but if you're not swollen, ice may not help

extra strength Advil gel caps will cut some of that tooth pain, maybe better than ibuprofen

I tried Aleve last night and nothing....didn't try Advil, but isn't ibuprofen the active ingredient in Advil? :-k

I never thought I would actually be looking forward to going to the dentist :|

It's #1 on my 'homework' list she gave me:

1). Use ice for acute recent injuries even if you think it is a muscle problem. Number one treatment is to deal with the inflammatory process.

Buy the extra strength Advil gel caps...they look like cod liver oil pills...golden/clear little footballs

not sure what's in them but I've tried almost every over the counter medication so they both may contain the same stuff, but one will work :)

even if you get this latest round of tooth pain sorted, they're good for normal headaches or minor sinus pain

I don't endorse many over the counter pain relievers
