The only thing with Amazon is buying from Amazon. I am less comfortable with their vendor network, but if it's directly from Amazon they are awesome too.
All my big ticket stuff I got from Amazon was from them...I wouldn't buy anything major there from their vendor network.

My mom got a letter in the mail today.... jury duty
See.. the thing about my mom is.. jury duty is her thing. She has now been summonsed ELEVEN (11) times. She has served four of them.
How the fuck is this stuff random if she has been summonsed 11 times in a country with millions of registered voters!?! She's 50 and has been voting since she was 19. She has never, ever met anyone with anywhere close to as many. I want her to write a bit about it and send it to the news or something. It's all very, very strange
Thankfully she can get out of this one. It's criminal and is expected to last 10-12 months. She and my dad already have tickets for a trip to Hawaii and she's a private medical contractor who wouldn't get paid on jury duty, so she'll be excused for both reasons.

Why do you go there!? There's perfectly good snow out there everywhere...besides, cross-country skiing should be done out in the nature anyway to enjoy it more. Going around the ski-stadium like lemmings is not quite it. Bumping to other fuckers and trying to avoid lawsuits cuz "you bumped into me and now Im hurt so bad!". And in Colorado's case, Im pretty sure there are plenty of hills and such to go do some snowboarding. Well yea if you want to go all the way that high. Downhill skiing is different from normal cross-country tho and I was thinking more of the traditional skiing than that downhill stuff. Cuz when you do cross-country, you can make it much more fun by packing your backpack full of picnic stuff and you can take breaks to just enjoy the weather and scenery.
I like the idea of that all, but I just really have never learned to ski that well it would be enjoyable for me. Maybe I just need a good pair of skis and some training with that to learn to like it more.

Yeah... no benefits at all for his employees (which is strange given I know a lot of similar agencies that have full packages) He said he would email me the salary info :wha: I don't know why he wouldn't just tell me.
I said "...I was also wondering what the entry level salary was at your firm, and where I would fit in that."
And he goes: "Well it's entry level ok.".... "I can email you the information if you want"
What a dick. So I said yes please, email me that information. That was on Saturday. It's now mid-day Monday and he wanted my decision by today... I still haven't got the email.
Without benefits I have to account that as roughly 25% of my salary (as my Dad the banker says). So it's going to have to be a bit more than I was willing to work for.

Our internal job postings are a joke....they never list the wage for the position.
So I could be in one department, let my supervisor know I'm applying to go elsewhere in the company, go through the entire interview process to find out I'd be possibly making less money. And then back out, piss off two departments...along with the fact my current supervisor now knows I'm looking to leave his area.

I recently took part in a survey done by an outside company...about our company's practices.Everything from wage to not being paid for sick days.
I was one of 50 people selected nation wide. When our head of HR approached me and asked (told) me if I wanted to take part, my first question to her was - Are you sure you want ME to do this???
Apparently when this company is done with the survey, they present commonalities to the president of our company and make recommendations.Whether they take action and actually change things is another matter.I told the woman interviewing me to feel free and use my name. She said it's all anonymous and most people don't want their names attached to the comments.I spelled my name for her....

Selling insurance and mutual funds ya... It's not quite as much as I hoped for. I'd be fine with 12$/hr with benefits and maybe some bonus' but 13$ without either isn't great
Performance review in three months and then hopefully a raise and full time
Or... I pass it up, use my connections to try and get a teller position at a bank. It's a bigger better company, little more pay and benefits but it might not start for weeks or months and I"ll have wasted my insurance license
Ahhh I'm so on the fence. This is a really, really hard choice for me

In our city it's extremes...guys like me work fairly hard and have lots of accountability, but get paid under 20/hr and that's after being here for years. It is warehouse tho....
conversely some jobs pay 70K to walk in, you have to have a BA but for the most part you're just sitting in a cubicle everyday twiddling your thumbs.

 I've had friends get crazy paying jobs doing manual labor. 20$/hr felling, 18$/hr landscaping... those kinds of things. One friend got a summer job at his dad's factory and made 25$ to sweep floors
They all spend their money like they've won the lottery...
You just can't whore yourself out the same way in the white collar world for entry level jobs :( :P Then again, the biggest risk is seasonal affective disorder...
Yea, unfortunately the trend is keep all the money at the top, white collar or blue the bosses all want to keep their profit margin up in a bad economy so they do it by taking from the middle class. I've seen so many people lose good paying jobs only to be replaced by someone competent but desperate enough to take the same position for 50% less salary.
I'd keep looking but that's just me.
It depends on the economy and how patient you want to be, but for what it's worth, my first job out of college paid $25,000 with full benefits in 1988. That was considered a high offer. We were expecting $20,000.
Adjusted for inflation, $20000 in 1988 would be $35805.57 in 2009. That doesn't mean much but I would think $30k ($15/hr) is a reasonable expectation with benefits, but I am saying that with no data to back it up.

Hell up on the Lake Erie islands bartending jobs are awesome if you can get in. A friend worked every summer for 10 years up there. May through October and was bringing home 60-70K in tips. He took the winters off. Another friend up there just drove an island taxi shuttling people from the bars and ferry boat to their rooms. He worked Friday evening through Sunday noon every weekend and would take in $1000-1200 a weekend.

Yeah that's more what I was thinking myself. 15$/hr seems like a very fair pay. Without benefits it's exactly what I was expecting... I'd take a little less with them.
I think it's hard because I hate job hunting and I'm bored of it... it makes me feel urgency that I wish I didn't.
Part of me wants to take this job, and just keep on looking as hard as I am now. For 12$/hr part time without benefits this guy gets no loyalty do he? As much as I'd hate to just walk away after he took the expense of hiring me... who is he going to get that's going to work hard and has some education like myself, for this little with fierce loyalty?
There's not a whole lot out there, so if this job sticks and gets better that's great... if I find a better offer, that's good too. It just seems better than turning down a job when there really don't seem to be many.
