We're expecting a snow storm of undetermined size that's supposed to move in here tonite...they're predicting from 4 to 24 inches of snow. :wha: I wish I could be that vague at work and still keep my job :rolleyes:


Going down to the hospital after work today to meet with a lady from the state that handles public assistance money, trying to get him help so that the nursing home will be paid for because right now all he has is his Social Security retirement income and that ain't much at all. :wha: We did all visit him on Saturday afternoon and he does seem to be coming along quite well. Will never be anywhere close to how he was before this last stroke, but he's talking much better and he has regained a small amount of control in his right arm, so it's progressing, slowly, but he's moving forward :)

Medicare (which is the government insurance for retired people) barely covers anything, it's shit insurance. If you want to make sure you're covered for everything, you have to pay for the additional government insurance or get yourself supplemental insurance from a private insurance company. Just the 'free' stuff they give you barely covers anything, it's a fucking travesty.

We get free healthcare but if you want extended care (prescriptions, dental physio, glasses etc) typically older people here buy Blue Cross.

I looked into it when I quit my job and found that it was around 70/80/90 month to get some of the benefits. I have a fair mind for numbers and opted out.

For older guys like Lance and Goofy's Dads, they would be paying approximately 1200 year to get 70% breaks on certain things like meds and physio. And only up to a certain limit yearly. So if your Dads need a lot of meds or assisted living, sometimes the additional health insurance isn't worth it here either.

Like all things you have weigh what you pay vs what you get.

Yup, and my dad opted not to get it, so now he will be responsible for everything that the Medicare Part A didn't cover unless we can get him approved for more government assistance. And that's what pisses me off about the social welfare net in this country...the people that really need it are the ones that can't get it.

Place where my Mom is at is supposed to handle all medical needs and prescription medication. Both the purchase and administration of medications.

My Mom had skin cancer, got a few things on her face removed. She needs a lotion to help healing. The place won't pay for it. It's only 30/bottle so my Dad picked some up and left it there. Now the nurses won't put it on my Mom because 'they have to wait for the unit's doctor'. This doctor shows up like once a month there and is a young, spinny doh-head. (I've met her).

So my Dad has to go down there to put some lotion on my Mom, once a week. He has to cut her toenails and fingernails too...

Not a comparison to what you're Pa is going through but we keep running into these stupid fucking nonsensical roadblocks with my Mom. We'll never leave her completely alone and not visit, but should the family be responsible for daily hygiene and minor things like - Please put your oxygen hose back into your nose because she's supposed to wear it 24 hours and each time we visit she has it off??
