For a guy who claims to be a proud American, Hank Williams Jr. sure is divisive.
The country crooner, who was forced to apologize last year after comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler, is at it again with the nasty political jabs.
Per the Des Moines Register, during an Aug. 17 concert at the Iowa State Fair, Williams couldn't resist telling his audience: "We've got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him."
The scathing remarks came after the 63-year-old musician performed his flag-waving tune "We Don't Apologize for America," which prompted chants of "U.S.A., U.S.A.," from the crowd.
His Obama bashing reportedly illicited cheers from his predominantly conservative fans, who are apparently either ignorant that the commander in chief is actually Christian or simply refuse to believe it.
When asked to comment, a spokesman for the Obama campaign dismissed Williams' stage banter, writing in an email, "That type of absurd nonsense doesn't really deserve a response." There has been no further comment from Williams.
Last October, ESPN permanently pulled the entertainer's classic opening theme song from Monday Night Football after Williams, in an interview with Fox News, equated President Obama playing golf with Republican House Speaker John Boehner to "Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu."
The singer later took to his website and issued a mea culpa acknowledging his "dumb" statement."
Guess old habits die hard.
