Key fobs are magical things. On many car models, the electric remotes that lock and unlock the doors and trunk come standard, but a convenient feature of the key remote has long gone unused by many car owners.

The remotes can often lower a car's windows, allowing owners to start airing out the car before hopping inside.

According to CNET, the trick usually involves pressing the remote's unlock button, releasing it, then pressing it again and holding down. In some cars, simply inserting the key in the lock, turning it clockwise, releasing, then turning it clockwise again and holding will do the trick.

The trick is usually explained in owner's manuals, but it has also been discussed online, although it has yet to gain widespread attention.

Fobs are magical things until the battery dies. Then you go to the store to pick up the replacement battery (CR1616), and you find that they're out because surprise! Everybody's key fob battery died. Then ya gotta wait 'til Tuesday for the new stock just to come in. Minor pain in the ass, but still... just another illustration of Murphy's Law.

If you can't wait until you're in the car to roll down your windows...oh my

reminds me of the brown guys I work with...every one of them has a remote car starter installed. Just before they walk out of work, you see 6 guys point at their cars, then walk 25 feet and get in  ffs, what did that accomplish?

I've worked with cars for the better part of last 25 years. This is pretty wide known for mechanics and Bodymen alike since we have to "time" the windows or reprogram them when you get into accidents or disconnect batteries. Another trick too is if you use a key to unlock your car if you hold the key in the unlock position for a few seconds after it's unlocked it will do the same thing. It will even open a sunroof if you have one. When locking a car you can do the same thing with the key, lock it through drivers door and hold the key in the lock position and it will close all windows and sunroof if open.

I know it's pretty common on Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes, BMW and Jags.... it's a pain in the ass sometimes when you have to reprogram it all after accidents.

Doesn't work on my Honda Civic. But then again, I did buy it used and I had to get a seperate keyfob programmed by a dealership, so maybe they 'forgot' to program that function into it in the hopes that I would come back and they could charge me for it?
