If you don’t care for President Obama, a Kentucky hardware store is offering you the chance to do something about it.
A Mom & Pop hardware store in Kentucky has been in the news because of a punching bag that it's selling. It features a picture of President Barrack Obama as a boxer with a black eye. Democratic strategist Matt Angle says all store owner Kenneth Stout wants is attention.
“He clearly is not very smart. He’s asking for controversy. Maybe that’s what he wanted,” Angle told KTRH.
Stout says that's not the case. He told KTRH he's looking to make people laugh. And the reaction from customers has varied.
Stout said, “Business people take a punch at him. People come in and hug him. It’s been both-sided.”
Stout says he doesn’t understand why people are getting so worked up over a toy.
“It’s just a comical thing. We all have a right to our opinion. I’m okay with it,” Stout said.
Not everyone sees the humor in it, though.
“It’s just not funny,” Angle said. “Particularly when you’ve got so much animus that’s expressed toward President Obama and other elected officials.”
“That wouldn’t be funny if it was George W. Bush and it’s not funny when it’s Barrack Obama,” Angle said.
So should products like these be banned? Angle says no.
“What you’d hope is that consumers determine whether or not someone should do something like that by not buying things at that store.”
Stout said he would sell a Romney Bop, but the company that made the Obama Bop hasn't made one yet.
