Cant believe its been 11 years already, the events of that day are still fresh in my mind :( RIP the innocent men and women.

Hat's off to all of the rescue/paramedic/police workers who run into dangerous situations, while us average citizens run the other way.

On 60 Minutes this past Sunday, they featured the Navy Seal who shot Bin Laden and has also put out a book. Big gronk of a guy explaining how the 30 minutes went down in Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan. Two things stood out after watching it...

When they got to the third and final floor, it's pitch black in the house, they go through a door and two women are standing there. A Seal immediately tackles both women against the far wall of the room, in case they had suicide vests or grenades. He did this to protect the other members of his team...


And after a harrowing 35 minutes in the compound (one chopper crashed, the other dangerously low on fuel), they remove Bin Laden's body, take as much intel as they can and fly back to the States. The first thing this Seal does is get in his truck and go to the Taco Belle drive thru. The world has no idea what's going on, he can't say a word and mere hours before, he was one of the Seals who shot Osama Bin Laden.

Those two things to me, typify the American spirit :thumbsup:

This past weekend they also showed some street level footage of the firemen carrying equipment into the towers on 9/11. Most of them had a harried look of dread as they walked up the street looking at the burning towers. Yet they kept on moving forward. Very poignant moments for me to watch.

Never forget.

Impossible for forget those horrible minutes watching the news, and the days and weeks that followed. Also a day that I hope Americans realize they're never alone. 24 Canadians died that day, and we grieved for our neighbors lost and for America, as did most of the world.

Can you imagine having to make that choice? You can either stay up there in the top floors and surely burn to death, or you can jump out the window to your death. I can't even imagine what those people were thinking about :(

11 years.. I still have no words, just tears.

I'm gonna try and man up today..

I was already out of the fire service a few years when the shit hit the fan, the 336 really, really hit me hard. 11 years later I still can't keep it together. 11 years later I'm back in the fire service and it is in my face almost every day and it still kicks me in directly in the nuts..

Once again, I am planning on attending our department 911 memorial ceremony, I pray that this year I will find the strength.
