Timmy Thomas was just unbelievable that round against Philly...149 saves on 156 shots. Hard to beat a goalie stopping nearly 96% of all the shots on goal.

Yeah I didn't want to bring that up but Phili stopped playing with 20-30 games left in the regular season. Not sure what you chalk that up to but there just wasn't life there

And Tim Thomas is a monster

I think the Canucks must just love elimination games so much they play them all 2-3 times  Just frustrating. The Sedins are making me nervous.

If they can finish off the Preds, it will be an amazing, very tough series against SJS (assuming they finish off the Wings). If we can get through them, I have much more faith we could defeat either team from the East.

I wasn't saying it as smack talk. I have thought about it, all season long. The West just holds more rounded teams, while the East has the big boys (think old-school Avs/Wings vs Rangers/Phili). And the West has won something like 10 out of the last 15 Cups as a result. Just thinking that with the two most successful regular season Eastern teams gone, and the Western teams still in it....

I don't wana sound cocky like I know the West will win... but if I were a gambling man...

PS. This is why I love the NHL. Clubs in this league are extremely involved in the community. As I understand it, quite a bit more on average than other major leagues (not that it matters)

Dan Hamhuis missed optional practice to hang with his good buddy in Nashville

I don't know, man. I see the remaining East teams as being a little more dominant and sure-footed. Vancouver should be rolling over everybody... but they're not. I haven't seen enough of San Jose's games to really tell how the Sharks are doing, but I have a feeling that they're gonna beat the crap out of Vancouver. Boston has turned on something fierce. Even if Philly was playing like shit, Boston didn't just beat them... they slaughtered them. Tampa Bay kicked the ever-loving shit out of Washington. Stevie Y really did a good job as the GM of that team. I think with the way the Canucks are playing, even though they're winning their current series, if they manage to get past the Sharks, then you seriously need to be scared of what comes out of the East Conf Finals. Those two East teams are the real deal.

Man I hope it's the Canuckleheads against Boston for the Cup because I wanna be the one to feed you that big plate of crow.

I'll take the B's and Timmy Thomas over your team with the head case goaltender any day and twice on Sunday. But if the Lightning beat the Bruins (see, I'm not cocky enough to think my team is unbeatable ;) ), I'll be just as happy to see them put the beatdown on the Cancukleheads too....that is if they even make it out of the west.

If you haven't noticed, I haven't trash talked once during these playoffs, but if you are gonna come in here and make a post claiming that your Canucks are vastly superior to the eastern conference teams that are left, I'm gonna come in here and defend my team. ;)

No need to worry though anymore because I'm done with this thread for the rest of the year....I see a few people in here that can dish it out, but can't take it back.

Having lived in Tampa Bay, I know that the fans are hard on their teams there. There's no loyalty. They want satisfaction every year. Buccaneers had it rough too and the Rays as well. Hell I remember being able to go to a Lightning game for $3 -$6 a seat just to fill the arena back in late 90's. I'm really surprised that team is still there.

Some are crying because 3 of the 4 goals were made on 5-3's...the Sharks had TONS of PP in the first period and a half (0 goals in 5)...didn't use them at their advantage, but Vancouver did (big time) Interesting fact here...the big guns woke up in this series.(both Sedins,Burrows...) Can't say anything about Kesler...alway's giving his 150%.And both former Habs are doing their job too.

Godfather
05-23-2011, 04:07 PM
Yeah... the Sharks have had about 18 power plays including 5 on 3's and a 5 minute major, in the last two games. They scored on the first three pp's but that's it since then. We needed to be more disciplined but killing all those penalties was great for the team.

As for our 5 on 3's... they weren't even up to the ref. A too many men, delay of game (puck over boards), blatant trips. You force the ref's to call it. And you have to know after 6 consecutive power plays, the other team is going to get a few eventually. Notice the players are blaming themselves, it's only San Jose fans who don't really know the sport whining now

Honestly... I want the next game to just be a 5 on 5 battle. That's all I care about. Refs need to put their whistles down on both sides. It's getting sloppy. Even Joe Thorton pretended to get high-sticked last night. Not his fault, that's just what happens when you have refs calling everything

Aaron Rome suspended 4 games
ESPN

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome has been suspended for four games by the league for his blindside hit of Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton in Monday's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Horton has a severe concussion stemming from the brutal hit and will miss the rest of the playoffs, the team said Tuesday.

The Bruins responded to the late hit on Nathan Horton in Game 3 with force -- physically and on the scoreboard, writes Jackie MacMullan. Story

Rome was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

"Two factors were considered in reaching this decision," NHL senior vice president of hockey operations Mike Murphy said in a statement Tuesday. "The hit by Rome was clearly beyond what is acceptable in terms of how late it was delivered after Horton had released the puck and it caused a significant injury."

If the Stanley Cup finals end before Game 7, Rome's suspension will carry over to the start of the 2011-12 regular season.

Horton, 26, is tied for second on the Bruins in playoff scoring with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists. The Bruins crushed the Canucks Monday night 8-1, but trail in the series 2-1.

Horton has been a hero in the postseason for Boston, which is in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 21 years. Horton scored the winning goal in overtime in Game 7 of the first round against Montreal -- and again in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, in Boston's 1-0 victory over Tampa Bay late in the third period.

Just five minutes into the game, Horton, skating near the middle of the ice, fed Milan Lucic on the left side, but, with Horton's head still turned that way, Rome launched into him an instant later at the blue line and Horton's head hit hard on the ice as the two spilled to the ground.

Paramedics immobilized Horton's neck, and he was taken off the ice on a stretcher, strapped to a backboard. Lucic said Horton was able to talk to him on the ice.

Horton was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, and it was communicated later to the team, as well as on the scoreboard to the crowd, that he was able to move his arms and legs.

"We talked about obviously playing for Horty," Bruins forward Mark Recchi said Monday night. "He's been a great teammate all year for us, been a great guy. It's tough to see your teammate laying down there on the ice. We knew it was a late hit. But we're more concerned about his health at this time. The league can take care of the rest."

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault thought the incident was unfortunate, but said he didn't think it was a dirty hit.

"Obviously, you never want to see any player leave in that situation," Vigneault said Monday. "I think our whole team and myself and the whole organization hopes that he's all right. ... I don't think that's the hit that the league is trying to take out of the game. This is a physical game, you have big guys. Fraction of a second to decide what's happening out there. It's very unfortunate. You never want to see that. But this is a physical game."

The NHL is in its first full season with Rule 48, a ban of blindside hits to the head of unsuspecting opponents.

Emotions already were inflamed after the first two games of the Stanley Cup playoffs in Vancouver, especially with Canucks forward Alex Burrows' bite of Patrice Bergeron's left forefinger in Game 1, which the NHL ruled was not intentional and did not penalize.

The third overall pick in the 2003 draft, Horton played six years for the Florida Panthers -- and never made the postseason -- before he was traded to Boston last summer.

"We lost a pretty good player," Julien said after Game 3. "We'll have to move some players around. Right now I haven't really made my roster up for next game. I can't give you that answer right now. But we'll find solutions. We always do."

Horton was Boston's second-leading goal-scorer this season with 26, finishing fourth on the team with 53 points.

While Horton is a key offensive player for the Bruins, the 27-year-old Rome is a depth defenseman for the Canucks, usually playing in their third pairing. He has one goal and 37 penalty minutes in the postseason.

Vancouver already lost defenseman Dan Hamhuis to an undisclosed injury in Game 1 of the finals, but the Canucks are deep on defense, with veteran Keith Ballard sitting out the first three games as a healthy scratch.

Teh One Who Knocks

And because of that ugly hit, Horton is out for the rest of the playoffs...one of our best players this post season. Them losing Rome for the rest of the playoffs is nowhere near a fair trade for us losing Horton. :|

That hit and that game were super hard to watch. Hope Horton is ok. That's a tough guy for boston to lose. :s

Rome should have let off, that was a late hit, his coach and teammates and obviously the league agree. But as to whether that is rule 48 or not is still to vague. 4 games is good. Need some teeth behind suspensions and hopefully more clarification so this garbage stops happening.

Thought it was cool of max pacioretty to twitter his well wishes right away.

You should hear their commentary on pitching while they're doing the play by play.

If an Atlanta player gets a looking-strike, they're all like "that could've been outside... oh wait, after looking at the trax, the ump made the right call." If the Brave's player checks his swing and gets called on a strike: "Terrible call!"

When an opposing player doesn't swing and gets a ball when the pitch has blatantly missed the plate: "He might've caught the corner on that one". If he checks his swing: :"Oh, no way that was a strike, he should be out! the ump definitely missed that one!"

I have been quiet almost the entire playoffs, not dogging anyone or any team, just enjoying an epic run through the playoffs for my Bruins and I couldn't be happier for the players, the organization, and the fans that have waited 39 years for the B's to bring the Cup back to The Old Town.

But one thing bothered me in the finals and I have to just get it off my chest. Anyone who has watched Timmy Thomas play and seen any interviews with the guy knows that he is a very quiet and thoughtful person and never has anything bad to say about anyone. He had a record setting performance in the regular season and he was the main reason the B's won the Cup this year. I respect every single player on the Canucks except one....Luongo. His whole whiny crap about saying he was 'pumping his tires' (referring to Thomas) all during the series and the comment he made about how he would have made that save in game 5 that Thomas let in, that was all classless (whether or not you believe his comment was overblown, as he tried to walk it back a bit after the media jumped on it). Thomas never said anything bad about Luongo at any point during the playoffs, even when he easily could have. And it takes a lot of nerve for Luongo to come out and say how he would have made that save in game 5 when he just came from Boston where he let in TWELVE goals in 2 games. I didn't realize that part of the rules was to heap praise on your opponent during a championship series. And if that's what Luongo needs to show up for the biggest 2 games in his NHL career, then he isn't nearly the hockey player he thinks he is and I hope he enjoys watching Timmy grab the Vezina as well when the awards are handed out. It will be the first time since the mid 70's that a goaltender will have won all three (the Cup, the Vezina, and the Conn Smythe) in the same season.

I believe in karma and unfortunately I think that's what Luongo got a big dose of in games 6 and 7.

Congrats to the rest of the Canucks, the organization and all their fans as you guys had an awesome season. It was a great Stanley Cup finals and one I will remember for a long time.

looks like a Sedin guarantee is about as useful as an Obama guarantee

heh, I agree on luongo. that cocky son of a bitch, you could tell by his goaltending that first goal scored on him...in his mind there was no way in hell that shot wasnt wide.

....at least he got his shoulder up so they didnt beat him over the ear again later

very good hustle by the canucks...at least until they ran out of gas.

damn good series though...I certainly wouldnt have called a no score for vancouver last night.

Congrats to Boston - this was probably one of the best playoffs that I can remember - almost every round was hard fought and exciting.

The unfortunate thing is for most non Canadian news - I bet lead off with the riot and the game was a after thought. Not good for Hockey and not good for Canada.

Tim Thomas was outstanding - too bad it's not a contract year for him. He would look good in Leaf Blue

Congrats Lance - I do believe you won the pool  (bastard :))
