View Full Version : How much gets you buzzed..... let's talk alcohol.

I have been having a bad month or so, and my drinking has increased. I was a guy who would drink 1/2 a fifth (a pint) to get buzzed, but now it's more like a six pack and pint.

Maybe buzzed is the wrong word. More like ready for bed buzzed is what I mean.

When I was in uni and drinking 2,3 or 4 nights a week during the couple major party years (hey, there were a lot of 'events'), I could drink 8-10 cheap beers on a Friday, stumble home and do it again on Saturday. Several friends could do 15+ and never developed a problem after Uni was done

Now, I think a six pack would put me on my ass early in the night. I can feel two or three beers giving me a bit of a buzz. I have a beer or wine with dinner maybe once or twice casually during the week and only hit the bar hard once a month probably.

Then again... any doctor will tell that when you ask someone how much they drink, you double whatever number they say for your records :P

Considering that I haven't drank any alcohol regularly since about 2002, and since then only periodically (I think the last time I had anything to drink was a glass of champagne on New Years and that was it), my tolerance must be absolute shit. In fact, I bet little Minzy could drink me under the table at this point in time. Ain't that sad?

minz
10-17-2012, 07:36 AM
 Is that a challenge? :d

Considering my parents let me drink at the age of 13 (German parents, born a raised in the country), it takes a few to get me buzzed. With beer, probably 3 1/2 bottles (or 1 1/2 Stein fulls), Vodka will take me a glass (small glass, but not a shot glass), and wine......I dont drink wine.

8 beers and then Im ready to start the harder stuff. If I don't, then there's no problems at all the next morning. Gotta double that amount to get me proper drunk. So 8 is a good little buzz for me.

Im guessing you live in one of those towns in Finn where the population is 35 and all you do is drink and use the "town computer". Is that why your tolerance is so high?

:)

It all depends...how much I have had to eat, how tired I am, what I am drinking, last time I went on a binge, etc...sometimes after 3 pints I can feel a definite buzz, other times it can be 6-8 pints before I start feeling "drunk"

It's never the same amount of alcohol.

Not for me, usually once I hit the wall, all I wanna do is pass out

I can feel the alcohol pass through my stomach lining and slowly spread out over my gut over about 15-20 seconds after I take a decently sized sip. But like others, "the wall" has varying distances

I'm about the same as Minz - half a bottle of wine is usually a good night with no problems the next day... a full bottle and it's 50/50 how I feel in the morning. Any more than that and all bets are off and I usually regret my actions from the night before.

Of course food and total drinking time make a difference as many have said here.

I usually drink rum and coke (Captain Morgan ftw!). It takes 2-3 doubles (highball glass) on an empty stomach before I feel it. Add 1 or 2 more if I just ate.

Other liquors (like bourbon) affect me much faster than rum. When I drink beer I feel like I spend the entire night peeing. Takes for ever to get a buzz on beer.

I used to drink 10-15 beers per night, switched to rye and drank a 26'er every Friday and Saturday night. Stopped drinking years ago so now, if I go out with someone who's been drinking and she kisses me, I get tipsy

no tolerance at all anymore...so probably 5 stiff drinks of whiskey would get my glow going...

Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum is pretty good.

I dont drink much hard alcohol (vodka or scotch on occasion) But, I can kill a 30 pack of Miller lite with my wife on a Saturday no problem and still be ready to get some more. I try to keep it to around 6-8 if its a school night

My usual rule as a 20 year old was to have 3 drinks a night max and have them early (say, 8pm). Then I was OK to drive home at 2am or whenever the party/nightclub closed. A bit stupid, knowing now that even 1 drink affects your driving even somewhat.

At one NewYear's eve party I started a 26er at 4pm at at 2am I'd cleared the bottle myself, mixing it with Ginger Ale. That's when I began to tell myself to slow down!

Now, 2oz and I start to feel it, 3 and I'm happy, 4 and I have quite the buzz on and I usually stop right there.

A 26'er is a normal size bottle of vodka, whiskey, rum etc....I think they actually hold 25 fluid ounces.

A mickey is about half that size, like the small bottle in the foreground of this pic (Glen's vodka)

Our whole lives growing up, it was either a mickey or 26'er, depending on your gender

My buzziness depends on many factors... Mood, type of drink, food involvement, etc..

Most I ever drank in one evening was about a dozen beers and somewhere between 20 and 25 shots of Jager. Left the bar at about 1 AM that day and was up at 6 AM that morning without even a hint of a hangover. And I didn't feel all that drunk either. I was in some kind of zone that night.

Energy level + food has everything to do with how hard/fast I feel the booze too.
