A school in Florida is in shock today after a 17-year-old student allegedly stabbed his girlfriend before stabbing himself.
Investigators say Antonio Acevedo, 17, stabbed his girlfriend of three years, also 17, in the neck with a pocket knife in the parking lot of Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando.
He has now been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Both students are currently in hospital and neither of them have suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The event, which police say is an 'isolated incident', is alleged to have happened at 8am on Monday morning.
Sgt. Vince Ogburn said: 'Apparently, he cuts her and then cuts himself.
'Both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.'
Asked if the injuries were serious, he replied: 'A cut is a cut. They are juveniles so we have to take them to the hospital to get them evaluated.'
A school resource officer alleged discovered the two students fighting and alerted authorities.
Principal Gene Trochinski sent a voice message to parents, in which he said: 'A male student injured a female student and then injured himself before he was apprehended by police.
'There is no cause for further alarm and the rest of the student body are safe and have resumed their normal class schedule for the day.
'Students, staff and our school resource officers all helped minimize the seriousness of this incident by following safe school procedures.'
One student, Trayvais Johnson, told Wesh.com: 'You come to school trying to get an education and then you hear about something like that happening and you're like: '"wow, what's going on today?"'
