A former Dieruff High School math teacher admitted in court Thursday that he gave a 16-year-old student a thong, told her to take pictures in it and said he'd give her extra credit if he was turned on by her naked photos.

Timothy C. Moll, 25, of Emmaus pleaded guilty to corruption of minors, a misdemeanor that carries up to five years in prison.

Under the deal, two felony charges — corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor — were dropped. Both those felonies each carry up to seven years in prison.

According to Lehigh County Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Falk:

On Jan. 31, the 16-year-old girl was sent to the assistant principal's office for using her cellphone in school. There, it was discovered she had been receiving inappropriate text messages from Moll, her math teacher.

Allentown police obtained a court order for Moll's text messages.

Falk said at some point Moll gave the student thong underwear and asked her to take pictures in it. He also asked her to discuss sexual positions and to send him naked pictures for extra credit.

"He said he'd give her extra points in class if she could turn him on," Falk said.

"Mr. Moll, is that what you did?" Judge Maria L. Dantos asked.

"Yes, your honor," Moll replied.

Dantos is scheduled to sentence Moll in December. Falk said he's not opposed to a county jail sentence instead of a state prison sentence.

Moll declined to comment after the hearing.

"I'm not saying anything," he said.

Moll was initially placed on suspended administrative leave following his arrest April 4. Allentown School District Superintendent Russ Mayo has said Moll is no longer with the school district, but would not elaborate on whether he was fired or resigned.

Moll, who has been free on $20,000 bail since his arrest, originally wasn't charged with the misdemeanor count he wound up pleading guilty to. Falk added the misdemeanor charge just before the plea and agreed to drop the felonies.

When Dantos asked Falk why he did that, he said he wanted to offer Moll the same deal he recently offered "in a similar case" involving a teacher.

Falk was referring to the case against former Allen High School teacher Gabrielle Marvelli, 40, of Quakertown who pleaded guilty in November to misdemeanor corruption of minors for having sex with a 17-year-old student — who was a week shy of his 18th birthday — on prom weekend.

Marvelli was shocked when Dantos sentenced her last December to nine months to five years in state prison.
