CRESTVIEW - A 20-year-old Crestview man was arrested after a Crestview Police officer smelled marijuana as he drove through a fast-food parking lot.

On Oct. 6 the officer was at the McDonalds on North Ferdon Boulevard when he smelled the odor of marijuana. He checked the parking lot for smokers and, seeing none, checked out a car that had just gone through the drive-through and was parked at one of the drive-through waiting spaces. As he approached the car, it started to back out, so he knocked on the rear passenger door and the driver stopped.

At that point the officer smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He asked the driver, a woman, and her passenger, the suspect, about the presence of marijuana; they told him they smelled only french fries. The officer asked to search the car and the two got out.

The officer found what appeared to be marijuana on the floorboard of the front passenger seat. When he searched the man, he found a small plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance.

The man then told the officer he'd been smoking marijuana in the car and pointed out a burned marijuana cigarette on the ground.

The man was chargd with possession less than 20 grams. His court date is Nov. 6.
