A Lisle man who authorities said was upset that his daughter was pulled out of a high school volleyball match has been accused of making death threats to the team’s coach and school’s athletic director, authorities said.

John. J. Kasik, 61, of the 400 block of Arborview Drive, also is accused of threatening to rape two members of the coach’s family, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin.

Kasik was charged with telephone harassment, battery and disorderly conduct after a series of events that took place last week, Berlin said.

“It’s disturbing for a number of reasons,” Berlin said Tuesday. “It’s a parent obviously not using good judgment.”

Kasik allegedly became upset Thursday night when his daughter, a player on the Lisle High School volleyball team, was removed from a match and replaced by her sister, Berlin said Tuesday.

After the match, Kasik, who was in the stands and reportedly angered by the substitution, followed the school athletic director to his house and began yelling at him, at one point saying he would kill the official if his distraught daughter “didn’t make it through the night,” Berlin said.

The athletic director convinced Kasik to come to the school the next day to talk about the matter. Later that evening, Kasik allegedly left several threatening text and phone messages for the volleyball coach, including one in which Kasik threatened to kill the coach and rape the coach’s wife and daughter, Berlin said.

The following morning, Kasik came to the school to meet with the athletic director, but the meeting degenerated when Kasik began shouting, Berlin said. When the athletic director tried to leave the room, Kasik blocked the door and bumped into him several times, according to Berlin.

The school contacted police, who arrested Kasik. He appeared in bond court Saturday, where his bail was set at $300,000. He has posted the $30,000 cash necessary to remain out on bond as he awaits trial.

The telephone harassment charge, because it contained a death threat, is a felony, Berlin said.

“The school personnel and the coaches need to be protected from things like this, so that’s why we moved quickly,” Berlin said.
