HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A Hillsborough County dad is facing charges after he was caught on video yelling violent phrases as his 16-year-old son fought another teen, deputies said.
The incident occurred April 9 in front of a home at Twin Branch Acres Road and Bronco Drive.
The video shows Philip Struthers yelling as his son was in a violent fight with another 16-year-old. He can be heard yelling "Punch his eyes out," and "Slam his head on the ground."
Deputies say Struthers, 42, made no attempt to break up the fist fight.
The video was subsequently posted on the web site "World Star Hip Hop."
A neighbor who witnessed the fight called the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office to report the incident and told investigators where they could find the video on the web.
"Obviously, this is way over the top. He is not only encouraging him to fight but to actually do damage by slamming his head on the concrete and gouge his eyes out. That could have caused severe damage and death," said Hillsborough Sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon.
Struthers was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
His jail record lists him as a self-employed contractor. Struthers was arrested in 2005 for domestic violence, according to investigators.
He was released Wednesday afternoon after posting bond. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office confirmed child protection services is investigating.
