She always does. Thanksgiving and Christmas, and occasionally on my birthday. She doesn't know how to shut up. I was happier when she was 2000 miles away. She makes me wanna move to the left coast. Unfortunately, I can't swim so I better get a house near Porky's in Arizona, just in case the left coast goes the way of Atlantis.

Anyways, I'm about to head out, so you guys have a great day. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

I suppose it depends on the family and the traditions they hold to. My family does turkey, ham, and some Italian thing (I've been making the Italian dish for the past 5 years, normally lasagna, it's kinda my specialty) along with a bunch of side dishes. But we do cook for two families, both mine and my sister's husband's. Every once in a while, family friends will join us. There can be a lot more variation in Christmas dinners than there are in Thanksgiving dinners.

And turkey done right is fantastic. Don't ask me what done right is, I don't know the first thing about cooking a turkey. Although turkey with turkey gravy is the bomb. And the leftover turkey sandwiches are awesome.

Point number 1: I saw this coming from a mile away and I would've done it myself, but I didn't want to rob Lance of what little enjoyment he'd get from the act. You do not insult the administration or moderating staff. Period.

Point number 2: Talking shit on America when you're an American is not looked upon favorably around these parts. You might have a shitty life, but it's your responsibility to improve it, and you have a lot more freedoms and opportunities in this country than other people in other countries in this world. Try being a gay man in a country that considers homosexuality a crime punishable by death, either by national religion, or by government decree. You don't know how lucky you really have it in this country, Korp. Enjoy your week off.

Turkey's just like chicken. It's pretty much a blank slate and really easy to dry out. My sister seasons hers well. It comes out pretty tasty. But I still want to try the deep fried turkey.

Those oven bags are usually pretty good at keeping the moisture in, or so I'm told. I'm pretty sure they've got large ones for turkey.

If your turkey is dry you are doing it wrong. Here are tips for juicy turkey:

1) Never buy a frozen turkey, always get a fresh one
2) Use a stick of butter and rub it all over the turkey. It helps the browning, tastes better, and makes the seasoning stick better.
3) Season the skin
4) Put 1/2 stick butter (cut into pieces) in the bottom of the turkey pan. You'll be glad you did when you use the drippings to baste the turkey and make your gravy.
5) Cook the turkey without the tin foil FIRST

Most people put aluminum foil over the turkey first then remove it in the last hour to brown the skin. This is a HUGE mistake and dries the turkey out, you also risk burning it.

5) After the turkey browns to your liking (usually 1 to 1 1/2 hours) baste and cover it with aluminum foil.
6) Leave it alone, only take it out once to baste between now and when it's done.
7) Remove the turkey when done and DO NOT carve it until 30 minutes passes.

This is another place where people screw up. During those 30 minute the juices go back into the turkey. Just like a steak it needs to rest but for a lot longer. Leave the finished turkey on top of the stove sitting in it's juices the entire time.

Carve after 30 minutes and let the "this is the juiciest turkey I've ever had" comments flow!

I certainly appreciate the advice but I'm talking about grandma's turkey, Mom's turkey, neighbor's turkey, girlfriend's turkey.....they all taste that way to me. We even bought the turkey in a bag one year and that didn't turn out any better.

To me...it's like a pile of dogshit. You can glaze, fry, soak in butter, baste, braze, drown it in spices...and it still tastes like it came out of a dog's ass

When my dad does the turkey, he always uses those oven bags. They are, in a word, awesome. Turkey always comes out juicy and never dry, even the whitest of the white meat which can turn into sawdust if it gets overcooked. I highly recommend those oven bags.

My grandmother loved those things.. They are good for a picnic shoulder also if you ever want to make BBQ.
