Marc Paskin, La Jolla's not-so-secret millionaire whose wife Marsha died from diabetes-related issues after 28 years of marriage in 2002, is now looking for love in Barrio Logan with a billboard off Interstate 5 that reads, "All I want for Christmas is a Latina girlfriend."
The billboard overlooks the 28th Street exit, and was first reported in Historically Speaking News on Thursday.
The unusual nine-word solicitation shows the 63-year-old's goateed face and an email address: ChristmasLatina@aol.com.
Thoughts, San Diego, on a billboard Santa Claus won't be able to miss once stories on it such as this one in Gawker go viral? What do you think? Offensive? Intriguing? Amusing? Shocking ... that he's actually using an AOL account? Let us know in the comments section below.
Paskin, a real-estate mogul, appeared on the ABC-TV reality show "Secret Millionare" in March 2011 and quietly handed out $125,000 in a Detroit neighborhood. He generated a local buzz five months later when he handed an El Cajon woman a check for a "free apartment for one year" at a fundraiser following the death of her daughter and mother at the hands of her estranged husband.
Paskin has two adult children and three grand-children as well as a home in Hawaii.
In a 2011 Q&A with U-T San Diego, he said more people are hitting him up for money since his appearance on the show.
"It’s endless," he said. "A guy from the Midwest sent me a several-page e-mail, saying he was almost 400 pounds and wanted money for a gastric bypass. A woman e-mailed me that she is poor and needs $500 for tires. People want help paying their mortgage. I feel bad for people in their situations, but I have to be very selective as to whom I help — I can’t help everyone."
For those ladies who haven't already stopped reading this to send him an email, his answers to two particular questions in that interview may be of interest.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: When not doing real estate deals, I like to travel, spend time with my kids and grand kids, and dress up as Elvis and sing karaoke. If you go to YouTube.com and search for Marc Paskin, you’ll see videos of me singing. I am awful, but it’s fun and keeps me off the streets.
Q: When you pass away, how do you hope to be remembered?
A: When I die, no one will be at my funeral talking about my cash flow or how many properties I own. But they will be talking about my heart, and how I used my success to help others in need. Giving back, helping others — to me, that is success, not the size of your bank account.
