A 19-year-old woman angry that a stranger relentlessly teased her boyfriend at a Christmas party stabbed the man at least nine times with a steak knife, South Daytona police said Wednesday.

The attack not only landed Desiree Kleinow in the Volusia County Branch Jail on Christmas morning, she also was charged with attempted murder and is now on mental health watch at the jail, officials there said.

According to police, Kleinow – who goes by the moniker "Dezzy Darko" on one of her Facebook pages — stabbed Joshua Stonaker, a man she had met at a Christmas party at her aunt Stacey Beatty's apartment on Christmas Eve, the arrest report shows.

The 30-year-old Stonaker told police he drank a lot of alcohol at the party in South Daytona and that he was a practical joker. "As the night and party continued he became more intoxicated and persistent in making fun of Jason (Ojeda)," the report states.

Toward the end of the evening as the party spilled into Christmas morning and a handful of partygoers had fallen asleep, Ojeda and Stonaker sat down at Beatty's dinner table and talked, the report shows.

But Kleinow apparently wasn't feeling as congenial as her boyfriend toward Stonaker, police said.

As the two men chatted, Kleinow stabbed Stonaker in the chest, shoulder and the neck, piercing his windpipe and compromising the airway, the report shows. Police said Kleinow stabbed Stonaker in the shoulder at least seven times with the serrated steak knife.

The stabbing stopped when Kleinow's mother, Kelly Green, woke up and yelled at her, the report states. At that point, Kleinow dropped to her knees, began crying and apologized, the report shows.

At first, Stonaker told detectives that he did not want to file charges against Kleinow. But after he was transferred from Halifax Health Medical Center in Port Orange to Halifax in Daytona Beach, he changed his mind and asked investigators to arrest Kleinow before he got out of the hospital, the report states.

Kleinow was already at Halifax in Daytona Beach where, according to police, she was "out of control." Because of her condition, detectives could not interview Kleinow, the report states.

Neither Green of Daytona Beach nor Ojeda of Daytona Beach Shores returned calls for comment on Wednesday.

Beatty, who is listed as Kleinow's aunt on her Facebook page, declined comment.

Stonaker, of South Daytona, was discharged from Halifax on Tuesday but could not be reached for comment.
