A MUM who faced a torrent of abuse for taking her four-month-old baby to a rave broke down last night as she told The Sun: “I’m so sorry.”
Sarah-Jane Hulme, 41, was branded a “disgrace” after being pictured cradling tiny Django at a late-night drum and bass thrash.
She was hit with a storm of criticism from parent groups, who claimed she must have been mad to take him in alongside drunken revellers.
Now the mother-of-three claims she bitterly regretted taking him to the gig. Sarah-Jane said: “I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I used to take my daughters out to similar events when they were the same age but that was almost two decades ago. I guess society has changed.
“I consider myself to be a great mum and I’d never do anything to endanger my son or any child. But now I wish I’d never gone out.”
Sarah-Jane, a woodland warden for the National Trust, sparked outrage after taking tiny Django to a “Blackhouse” drum and bass night at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, near her home in North Wales.
She was pictured holding the child as she listened to daughter Kerry, 23, perform with her band at 10pm last Saturday.
But Sarah-Jane insisted the ear protectors worn by Django meant he was not affected by the noise. She said: “They were so effective that Django slept through the whole performance.”
Police stopped the music at 12.30am after a worried clubber spotted the mum and baby still at the venue. Sarah-Jane said: “It seemed over the top but I knew I’d done nothing wrong. Next thing I’m all over Facebook.”
And the mum hit back at her critics on the social media site — where she was branded “not fit to be a mother”. She added: “I don’t feel ashamed but the criticisms upset me. I wanted to be there for my daughter, like any proud mother would.”
