CITRUS COUNTY - Robert Forbes, 32, and Christina Forbes, 33, of Beverly Hills, were arrested Thursday morning and are now facing child abuse charges after a roach was found in their child's ear, Citrus County deputies say.
Deputies say the school nurse found the roach in the 9-year-old boy's ear last September. At another time, deputies say, roaches were found crawling out of the boy's backpack.
The child reeked of cat urine, wore the same pull-ups to school on multiple occasions and was denied needed medical attention, according to authorities.
The child's teachers routinely gave him food and helped clean him.
Investigators said they found the child's home to be in deplorable conditions which put his safety at risk.
The child has now been placed in alternative care.
Each of his parents is being held on $5,000 bond.
