PHOENIX -- A Valley man was arrested this weekend after he allegedly tried to burn down his estranged wife’s house.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, 51-year-old Gary Noel broke into his wife’s rented home near I-17 and Daisy Mountain Drive early Saturday morning.

Neighbors called 9-1-1 when they saw Noel’s car parked outside the house.

Deputies arrived just in time to arrest Noel as he was walking out of the home.

As deputies detained Noel they began to detect smoke. They then heard fire alarms inside the house going off.

Fire crews were called to the home and they put out flames that were in a bedroom. A cat inside the house died from the fire, but crews were able to rescue a dog.

Deputies said they found Noel in possession of multiple tools, a crow bar, and other evidence indicating a burglary.

Noel, who has previously been arrested for aggravated harassment and violations of order of protections, didn’t sound apologetic after Saturday’s arrest.

“She deserved it,” Noel told 3TV as he was being taken into custody.

Noel's wife was not home at the time of the incident.

Noel is now facing multiple criminal charges.
