Taylor Swift is well aware of how the public perceives her. Addressing her much-talked about love life in the April issue of Vanity Fair, the 23-year-old singer opens up about her high-profile relationships and sets the record straight about her rumored romantic conquests.
"If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people," she says, referring to high school senior Conor Kennedy and One Direction singer Harry Styles.
Though Swift's little black book includes famous names like Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner -- many of whom she's written songs about -- the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer can't fathom why people are interested in who she's dating. "The fact that there are slide shows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with. . . it's just kind of ridiculous," she says."
When asked if she considers herself to be boy crazy, Swift smiles. "For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated -- a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way --that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist."
Swift also addresses reports that she bought home the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port in Massachusetts. "People say that about me, that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like -- that's a thing that I apparently do," she tells the magazine. "If I like you I will apparently buy up the real estate market just to freak you out so you leave me."
The "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" singer adds, "One of these things I say to myself to calm myself down when I feel like it's all too much . . . If there's a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it's not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there's a house rumor, they'll find out it's not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house."
As Vanity Fair contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales points out, however, Swift did purchase the house for a reported $4.8 million via her management company. The property was recently resold. "It was like a house-flip," a source tells the magazine. "A good short-term investment."
Though Swift declines to delve into the specifics of her her ill-fated romances, she authorized a source to discuss her relationships with Sales. Styles, 18, "wore her down" in the beginning, a source tells Sales. "He was all, like, 'You're amazing -- I want to be with you. I want to do this.'"
Swift fell for his charms but broke things off when she saw a picture of Styles "making out" with a friend. She took him back in the fall of 2012. "But the whole time she says she feels like he's looking at every girl," the source says. When they were in London together, the boy band member "disappeared " one evening and "after that it was like he just didn't want to keep going," the source says. A rep for Styles' denies the source's claims, calling them "undeniably false."
The singer's relationship with Kennedy, who was 17 at the time, is described as "just like a two-month thing" by the source close to Swift. "She dated Jake and John when she was really young and they were in their 30s, and she got really hurt. So it was like 'That hurt -- this won't. But then it did.'"
