A Stockbridge couple landed in jail after underestimating how seriously a rental car agency took the return date in the rental contract.

On Feb. 23, Gwinnett County Police stopped a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Dayvon Green, 31, of Stockbridge, near the intersection of Highway 316 and Harbins Road after a check of the tag indicated the vehicle had been stolen. Green and his passenger, Valerie Green, 34, also of Stockbridge, were immediately taken into custody.

The vehicle, which is owned by Avis, had been rented to Valerie Green and had not been returned on time. When questioned about the vehicle, Ms. Green reportedly said, "I knew it was due back, but I didn't think they would report it stolen. I thought they would just send me a bill." The police report did not indicate when the vehicle had been rented or when it was supposed to have been returned.

During a post-arrest search of Ms. Green's possessions, an officer located 13 Social Security cards, 13 Medicaid cards and other cards, several of which did not have the name of either Dayvon or Valerie Green.

When asked about the Social Security cards, Dayvon Green claimed they belonged to his children and was able to state each name listed on the cards.

At the time of the traffic stop, Valerie Green's 11-month-old child was in the vehicle. The child was later released to Green's sister.

Dayvon Green was booked into the jail on a charge of theft by receiving. He was released the following day on a $5,700 bond. Valerie Green was also booked into the jail on a charge of theft by receiving and released the following day on a $5,700 bond.
