The anniversary of the battle of the Alamo was a few days ago. It brought up several discussions of Texas history on local radio talk shows. One of them reminded me of a conversation I had a long time ago while I was still in the military. A squadron mate of mine remarked that every person he had ever met from Texas knew all the words to the state song; at which point I began to sing "Texas Our Texas". He then went and asked others nearby if they knew the words to their state song, only the ones from Texas knew. I even know that the words were changed from "largest and grandest" to "boldest and grandest" when Alaska joined the union.
So, do you know the words to your state, province, or regional song? Not your national anthem, but a smaller governmental area.
