A couple have been arrested after allegedly spiking a packet of doughnuts with razor blades in an attempt to secure a cash settlement from a Utah grocery store.

Police say Carole Lee Leazer-Hardman and Michael Condor of Draper ate several of the 'spiked' donuts and even gave one to a co-worker who was not in on the scheme.

The razor blades ranged in size with the biggest as large as a thumbnail.

Hospital X-rays revealed that Leazer-Hardman, 39, and Condor, 35, had several of the razor blades in their stomachs.

A co-worker who ate one of the blade filled pastries suffered cuts to her mouth.

Police in Draper said the couple planned to extort money from Smith's Food and Drug store by claiming they had eaten the tainted food.

They received a call from the couple who claimed they found a triangular piece of sharp metal in a donut

The store owner's pulled the food from their shelves, but investigators said they became suspicious as the doughnuts were in a tamper proof packet and shipped from out of state.

Draper Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter said that as detectives looked at the evidence, it became clear that 'things weren't adding up.'

He said the suspects had purposely eaten fingernail- to thumbnail-sized pieces of broken razor blades.

Police said Condor later admitted that the two had planted the metal in the donuts so they could get a settlement from the store.

He said they were both in debt and decided to try and get money from the store.

Condor allowed one of his co-workers at a Dollar store to bite into one of donuts

The pair has been charged with filing a false police report and assault.
