Ah the humble sausage, by itself a delicious, succulent, phallic chunk of meat essential to any good fry up. But split that sausage up into its component parts and you might be surprised by what you find. Food experts at the Daily Mail claim that if you found out you “may never want to eat another frankfurter”, whilst The Simpsons speculates the ingredients lie somewhere between a boot and a raccoon.
Regardless, you can rest assured that if you discovered the carcass of a kitten in a sausage you’d be pretty pissed off. Then you’d probably build a shrine to that sausage kitty and start praying to it, which is exactly what a 52-year-old Thai woman did.
Krod Yotchomrang was cooking sausages from the local market for her family when she noticed something a little odd inside one of them. Wisely deciding to probe a bit deeper, Krod cut open the footlong sausage and scarred her family for life.
“We almost threw up when we realized we were eating the body of a kitten for dinner,” she told the Bangkok Post.
But rather than waste the body of the deceased kitten, Krod decided to be a little more creative. She created a shrine dedicated to the, quite-literally-named, sausage kitty and began praying to it.
As you might expect, word of the sausage kitty shrine spread pretty fast through the neighbourhood, with many believing it would bring them good luck. Fuck knows why. Bizarrely, the luck giving properties of the sausage kitty shrine were cemented in the history books for all time when several of those who had prayed won money in a local lottery.
Public health officials are investigating whether the local meat company were deliberately mixing cat meat with pork, or if the kitten had fallen into a sausage making machine. Grim. It’s Sweeney Todd meets Dr Dolittle. Kind of.
