FORT WALTON BEACH – A Niceville man was arrested after he failed to return a car so he could continue “a binge of drugs and alcohol,” according to an arrest report.

On March 9 an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy went to a Beverly Street apartment to look into a report of a car theft. The owner said 49-year-old Leslie Hornback of Niceville took her car out to test the brakes, promising he’d return it right away. After 27 hours the owner contacted lawmen.

Hornback was arrested. He admitted borrowing the car and knew he had to return it soon, but decided he could keep it to continue “a binge of drugs and alcohol,” he told deputies.

He was charged with grand theft auto and has a May 9 court date.
