A group of men assaulted a baby sitter, pointed a gun at a four-year-old and stole a pit bull puppy during a home invasion Wednesday night, police said.
A 16-year-old was baby-sitting two children at their parents’ house near Union Park in northeast Des Moines when four or five men kicked in the front door around 11:20 p.m., authorities said.
They pointed guns at him and one of the men asked the victim where the drugs were, police reports show. The victim said he didn’t know.
The suspects forced the victim to stand in a corner while they searched the house, police reports show. They went into every room except the room where the children, ages four and seven, were sleeping, police said.
The men were in the house roughly 20 minutes, the victim said. Before they left through the back door, one punched the victim in the face and several kicked him while he was on the ground. The four-year-old woke up and came out of his room and one of the men pointed a gun at him and told him to go back to bed, police said.
The children’s parents told police the intruders were likely people they knew and gave officers the names of several suspects, including reported gang members one of them met in the Polk County Jail.
The only thing taken was a five-week-old pit bull.
No arrests have been reported.
