Will I Be Struck Down ?

Ohh wait

I'm reluctant to list a definitive answer as well. Isn't the power of fear a messy thing?

I think the concept of an afterlife is great, but the science really says otherwise...

Sometimes, but not all the time. I do like some of the brain-dead 'shit' films that you pan on an almost daily basis.

Oh by the way, I voted Yes, but I could easily argue that the jury's still out. My upbringing in Catholicism is winning out tonight.

Strictly speaking, there is no concrete evidence for the existence of God, but that does not logically imply that God can not exist. Similarly, there is no concrete evidence that God, or any supreme being that could be labeled 'God', doesn't exist. The most we can say, logically speaking, is that science has not come far enough to answer that question as of yet. We just don't know at this point in time. There isn't enough verifiable information to say one way or another. Anyone declaring either position is just doing so on faith, and faith is just a matter of personal opinion. And everybody has a right to their opinions.

My option isn't on the poll. So I haven't answered and will instead give my "opinion" here.

First, some foreground.

I'm the 4th child of a HIGHLY catholic family. My brothers and I all went to CCD classes and were alter boys. My mother taught CCD classes. I can recite 70% of the bible from memory.

Now, I won't say I believe in "GOD" per se, even though I was raised and forced fed to do so, but I believe in the premise of such. I would say that I believe in a higher power, or more so to the point, a higher purpose in life. A code of conduct, if you will, that all humans should live by. Good triumphs over evil, heaven over hell, etc... Most people, even atheists, believe in such ideals, even though they may or may not understand why they abide by them. Which brings me back to higher power, or purpose. I won't call it a societal code of conduct, because different cultures have different rules, but we'll keep it simple and for the sake of argument, and just point to the 10 commandments, which most people on the planet abide by.

With all that being said, I DO NOT, and I cannot reiterate this enough, DO NOT believe in organized religion. Any of them, Period.

Go back through history, and it's proven time and time again. Man took this "belief" and twisted it. They used it to gain power. They used it to control. They used it to commit murder on a scale larger then anything else on earth. More people have been murdered in the name of god then any other reason.

It is for those simple reasons I would classify myself as agnostic.

My mom didn't trust the priests, so we would only do it, if all three of us could do it together. When my eldest brother quit, we all quit.

So no

I believe in God
I believe in evolution
I believe in the powers of nature, that the energies of all living things are connected

I believe in the Big Bang theory. And I also believe the components of matter necessary for the big bang theory to occur, had to come from somewhere...

if everything, came from nothing...how did that happen?

I believe in something immeasurable and beyond our understanding being responsible for the creation of something out of nothing. The concept of God is a human idea and I do not thing we should apply specific terms and definitions to something we have not been able to measure or define as of yet.

Got my faith, baby
In the Lord
Got my faith baby
In the Lord, Lord, Lord

And I know, He'll make everything alright
No matter where a child roam
That child's gonna have a home
If he's got his faith alright

Said, I don't believe in no car
I don't believe in General Motors
I don't believe in the President
Or the League of Women Voters

I don't believe in these things
All these things might fail
I don't believe it's gonna snow
It might sleet rain or hail

But I believe in the Father
I believe in the Son
I believe there's a Spirit
For everyone

I believe in the Father
I believe in the Son
I believe there's a Spirit
For everyone

That's not all
That's not all
I'm gonna tell y'all
Let's do the faith call

Call F, F, I said, "A"
A
I said, "I"
I

I said, "T"
T
I said, "H"
H

What that spell?
Faith
What that spell?
Faith, oh faith

Got my faith baby
In the Lord
I got my faith baby
In the Lord, Lord, Lord

So you are saying you do believe in God. God meaning a person/place/thing/idea/concept/theory/technology that is beyond our understanding. Do you choose not to say "God" because you think that makes you religious or something? I guess if that works for you then go for it.

I think God is a concept, a theory, or a hypothesis with innumerable possibilities. Disprove some parts and there are thousands more to go. Show me someone who has disproved all the concepts of God and I'll show you a liar.

Until we "prove" everything one way or the other, the possibility of God (in any form) is a distinct possibility.
