(THE GIST) — Last weekend top officials from a New York-based Satanic Temple traveled to the grave site of Westboro Baptist Church founder and chief-asshole in residence Fred Phelps's mother in order to perform a ceremony celebrating same-sex unions.
The Satanic ritual, known as a "Pink Mass," was performed twice — once with two gay men, and once with two lesbians, right on top of the worm food that was at one point responsible for creating the man who would later create a church that feels it necessary to so nonchalantly desecrate the graves of other people.
Here's the kicker though: according to Satanic Temple officials "Upon completion of the Pink Mass ceremony, Catherine Johnston (Phelps' mom) is now gay in the afterlife." Meaning, of course, that if she was in heaven before, her son now pretty much has to assume she's been banished to hell.
Photos of the ceremony are available on the website the Satanic Temple hijacked, www.westboro-baptist.com, where the temple encourages other same-sex couples to "pay their respects" with similar travels to the Mississippi cemetery and post photos of it.
