A 17-year-old girl made a mistake last Saturday at Slane Castle in Ireland.
She gave oral sex to a man at an Eminem concert. In the age of smart phones, it’s hard to get away with doing something like that in public. Witnesses took pictures of the act and upload them to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Within hours, the photos went viral.
The social media sites have removed the pictures from their websites and cracked down on the users who posted them. Since the girl is 17, the photographs are technically child pornography. Many of the users whom posted the picture have had their accounts shut down.
The experience has proved so stressful for the girl that she was hospitalized yesterday. She has reportedly been sedated.
“This is a very sensitive matter and the girl's family are distraught,” a source told the Irish Sun. “This is so out of character for her. She's currently very emotional and confused about the whole thing.”
The source also said that "the teenager has not been medically fit enough to make a formal statement yet, but when that happens this could turn into a sexual assault investigation."
While the girl is being shamed and criticized across the web, the male on the receiving end of the act has either been ignored or praised for his public display of sexuality. Some social media users deemed the man a “legend” and a “hero”.
Thankfully, some users across the web have pointed out the blatantly sexist double standard being applied. Twitter user Jessica Valenti summed up the problem best with a tweet earlier today that said “True story: Shaming a girl for giving head while admiring the guy who got it makes you a raging sexist hypocrite.”
