A Brigham City man is accused of demanding sex from his now-teenage daughter, starting when she was 9 years old, as "payment" for outings with friends and her activities with school and church.
The man, 46, was charged Wednesday with nine counts of rape and one count of sodomy on a child, all first-degree felonies.
His daughter, now 16, allegedly told a friend at church camp about the sexual abuse and asked the friend not to tell anyone. Instead, the friend told her parents, who told their church bishop. The bishop reported the allegations to the Division of Child and Family Services.
The girl told investigators that her father raped her more than 50 times since she was 9, according to charges. She said the abuse increased in frequency as she got older, and he now was having sex with her three to four times per week, investigators wrote.
The girl said that "whenever she wanted something or wanted to go somewhere, she would have to pay with sexual acts," police wrote. For example, earlier this month the father required she have sex with him four times in exchange for allowing her best friend to visit from out of town, investigators wrote. When the friend left, the father told her "that it was time to pay up," police wrote.
At the end of the interview, the girl wept and said she didn’t want her father arrested because it would "tear her family apart" and hurt her siblings, police wrote.
Police arrested the man June 19. The Tribune is withholding his name to protect the identity of the girl.
