A petition against the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel has fetched over 50,000 signatures.
The petition, set up on change.org, criticised Affleck for his acting ability and implored Warner Bros to consider someone else. At the time of writing it has amassed 53,267.
It read: ‘His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won’t do the role justice. He’s not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman.
‘His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he’s not remotely close to an action star. Please find someone else.’
John Roden, who launched the petition, has since amended it to say that it was not meant to damage the Argo star’s professional life.
Kentucky resident Roden wrote: ‘I would like to add that this petition was not meant in any way to harm Ben Affleck or his career. I respect Affleck’s work, I just feel he is inappropriate for the role.’
For now the decision has been made and Affleck will be starring opposite Henry Cavill in the Zack Snyder-directed movie, due for release in 2015.
