Teh One Who Knocks

Anyone have any big plans for the long weekend?

Me, I'm doing a whole lot of nothing hopefully. Maybe take a trip down to the Taste of Colorado festival downtown one of the days, but other than that, can't really afford to do a whole lot right now.

Doing work for these online classes. I'll get outside a little bit just to get some fresh air like I try to every day.

There is a Luau planned on Saturday and a big party with a band on Sunday. I will be at both.

The local free pool...and also I live by the ocean so a walk on the pier is definitely in the offing.

Plans are to grill up some steaks Sun or Mon night. Other than that, not much. Probably finish up some yard work though at some point.

Sad, but true. I spent a bit of time in Vol Fire Dept, and worked closely with the two neighboring City (paid) depts. Luckily for me, at the time I was still a bit of a party animal.

Honest truth, had I known that I would enjoy firefighting so much, I would have got my degree in Fire science instead of electronics. I miss the hell out of it to this day, and it's been 7 years since I've been on a nozzle.

Sooo...how was your weekend?

I did the pool thing....tried to get to my own beach, and the neighbouring town's beach, but for the first time ever, there were no parking lots and gridlock...Spent Sunday driving around my own freakin town and ended up on my own deck!

Ah well...If that's all I have to complain abour, life ain't bad. Kidlet goes back to school - Grade 5. Time flies.

Few pics that were taken around the island this past weekend. It was the reenactment of the battle of Lake Erie. 17? tall ships, thousand of boaters and 100,000 tourists.

Is that an annual thing?? I'd love to take my father to it. I learned to sail from him, and crewed (briefly) on the last privately owned brigantine in the world back in the late 80's

A few tall ships come in every year, including the brig Niagara. This year was a huge one time event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the battle that helped turn the war. It was a pretty big deal, I'm sure there will be documentaries featuring the reenactment.

Regardless, I'm sure your dad would love all the history of the islands, plenty to do for a few day trip.

BTW Kev, your dad would have loved it, you not only could tour the ships ($10), a few were doing 2 hour sails for $45 and you could be onboard representing an original crewmember during the battle! ($1500-$2500)
