(WXYZ) - A Waterford man was arrested for allegedly handcuffing his mother to a running car in a closed garage and waiting for her to die.

Police say 45-year-old Adam Lutz handcuffed 78-year-old Gloria Lutz to the outside of a car in the garage and then remotely started the vehicle.

After 4 hours, police say Gloria managed to escape the garage and barricade herself in a bedroom. She reported the incident to the police department the next day.

Police say they believe Adam was after his mother's money and that psychological abuse had been going on for several years.

Adam was arraigned on attempted murder charges at the 51st District Court and given a one million dollar bond.
