Two Washington state teens are in custody after one convinced the other to attack his own mother with a sword and tried to convince him to eat her, the Spokane County Sheriff's Department reports.
"The victim's 13-year-old son blamed his thought process on his drug usage and said he would never do anything like that sober," according to a statement from the sheriff's department. The teens have been charged with assault, burglary and other crimes, according to the agency.
The mother was hospitalized and was in stable condition Wednesday, sheriff's deputy Craig Chamberlin told The Columbian. The sheriff's office did not release the woman's name.
The tale unfolded in the early hours Tuesday, when sheriff's deputies responded to a call of an assault and found a woman, bloody in her bed with two knives and a sword with a bent handle near her, according to the agency.
Because they found no signs of forced entry, deputies figured the woman's 13-year-old son and his friend, 14, might be the culprits.
When they went to the home of the friend, the father reported that his Dodge Durango SUV and keys were missing. While there, deputies got word of a hit-and-run accident.
When they reported there, they found the Durango still running and a mobile home that had been crashed into, according to a statement released by the sheriff's office.
As deputies investigated, dispatch then informed them about a home that had been broken into. When they arrived there, they found a home that had been severely damaged.
A K9 dog named Brax helped nab the two teens, who had been hiding nearby, after a Washington state trooper reported that he saw them running off.
