SEATTLE -- A Kent high school teacher accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl now faces criminal charges.

Brent Conley -- a Seattle resident and Kentridge High School teacher -- is alleged to have offered a fictitious girl $100 for sex after responding to an online advertisement posted by a Seattle Police Department detective. According to charging papers, Conley showed up at a Sodo McDonald's expecting to meet the girl.

In charging documents filed Friday, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Carol Spoor described the English teacher as a "danger to children."

"He tried to meet with a 15-year-old girl in order to have sex with her in exchange for money," Spoor said in court papers. "The defendant's intentions were clear from his e-mail correspondence and he admitted to the detective that he intended to have sex with the girl."

Conley was barred from campus following his release from jail on Thursday and has since been placed on paid administrative leave, said Chris Loftis, executive director of communications for Kent School District. Conley joined the district in August as an English and social studies teacher after working as a substitute elsewhere.

"To work in a school district is a public trust," Loftis said. "If what is alleged to have occurred did occur, then obviously that's a breach of that trust."

According to police reports filed in the case, Conley responded to an ad posted in the "Casual Encounters" section of an unidentified online site. The advertisement read "Student looking for older men" and implied the girl was a high school cheerleader looking to make money through prostitution.

Conley, 27, exchanged several emails with the undercover detective before agreeing to pay $100 for sex with the girl, a Seattle detective told the court. Conley is alleged to have arranged to meet the girl at the McDonalds, where he was arrested on Sept. 18.

Writing the court, the detective contended Conley admitted he came to meet the girl for sex. He is alleged to have planned to take the girl back to his home in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood.

Booked into King County Jail following his arrest, Conley posted bond the following day and has since been free. He is now charged with attempted commercial sexual abuse of a minor, a felony sex offense.

Meh. He may have solicited for sex but he didn't solicit a minor.
