Decatur police said a man fired multiple shots inside his home on Aldridge Bend Southeast this afternoon after calling 911 and reporting gorillas in his backyard.
Dispatchers heard gunshots about 2:45 p.m. after the man stopped speaking with them but left the phone line open, police spokesman Lt. John Crouch said.
Officers made contact with the man and found a shotgun that appeared to have been fired several times inside the home, Crouch said.
Crouch said the shots were fired from a recliner into a wall.
"It appeared he was shooting at something he thought was inside the house," Crouch said.
A Morgan County mental health officer ordered the man be taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital Decatur General Campus emergency room for a mental evaluation, Crouch said.
"He was taken into custody without incident and no charges will be filed at this time," Crouch said.
