A Shiremanstown volunteer firefighter is facing charges that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl whom he met at the fire station.
Nathanial Allen Roland, 22, of Mechanicsburg, is facing 15 felony charges — five counts each — of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors, as well as five misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, according to charging documents filed in a Cumberland County District Judge's Office.
In the documents, Lower Allen Township police assert that Roland admitted to having had illegal contact with the victim, after he met and befriended her at the Shiremanstown Fire Department station off West Main Street.
Roland and the victim began texting one another, and eventually entered into a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship in December 2012, the documents state.
The victim's parents noticed Roland "showing unusual interest" in the victim and at one point the victim's father told the firefighter not to contact his daughter anymore and even had a Shiremanstown police officer talk to Roland, the documents state.
Regardless, Roland and the victim continued to see one another in secret, the girl allegedly told police when the relationship was discovered. She and Roland would meet after school when she was home by herself at her aunt's house twice a week, the victim told police.
Lower Allen police began investigating the relationship in late April after the victim's mother found handwritten notes from Roland in the victim's possession, detailing sexual contact he had had with the victim. When confronted about the notes, the victim told her parents and eventually police about her contact with Roland, the documents state.
In total, the victim outlined at least five separate occasions in which she and Roland had had sexual contact, police said. The victim also admitted to sharing several nude photographs and videos with Roland over the course of their relationship.
Roland was questioned by police for several hours on April 22, during which time the volunteer firefighter reportedly admitted to his and the victim's relationship and illegal contact.
According to police, Roland and the victim discussed getting married and having children together after she turned 18.
Roland also admitted to sharing photos with the girl, but police found his phone had been "wiped clean" on April 22. Detectives uncovered a single photo Roland had sent to the girl of his genitals.
Police also uncovered several texts between Roland and the victim detailing further inappropriate contact. The last text sent from Roland's phone on April 22 read "I will be going to jail I'm sure of it," police said.
Roland was taken into custody July 15 and was released that same day after posting $10,000 bail, according to court records.
