I like to swap out my old home equipment for the new stuff we buy, the end user never knows the difference

Old workmate of mine claimed to 'help' my family buy my first real PC...he had a little side thing making a few bucks after building PC's on the cheap.

He's knowledgeable, knew that I wanted to game and charges my Dad something like 500 bones for a new tower. Not bad for the time (2003-2004).

I notice it has troubles playing basic games, he says upgrade the vidcard so I save and buy a new vidcard. (about 200 bucks at the time...)

Take my pc to the place I bought my vidcard (Visions electronics) and the sales guy makes a big deal about installing the card right there for me - Everyone gather round while I upgrade this!

Opens up my new pc, looks inside, looks at me and then says - Sir, where did you get this PC? There is no graphics port (either VGA or AGP , which was popular at the time), it's onboard graphics through the CPU, you can never upgrade this PC with a video card...ever. Now leave the store

I tell this to my work buddy/friend...he seems amazed and says he had no idea. I make him upgrade the box because of the price my parents paid, he has to jump some hoops, pay some of his own money (to upgrade the mobo) and our relationship suffers. I don't speak to him again and instantly take the side off my new PC, go online and learn how hardware in computers works.

I was pissed :|
