PHOENIX – A man was arrested after allegedly setting a fire at a Phoenix bar because he did not like a poster that showed shirtless men.

James Alfredo Valenzuela, 19, of Phoenix, faces a felony arson charge.

Police said Valenzuela set fire to Plazma at 16th Street and Osborn Road on Oct. 15.

According to court documents, he was captured on a video surveillance camera using a lighter to set fire to a male revue poster at the bar.

The fire caused approximately $2,000 damage to the exterior of the building.

Valenzuela did not try to put out the fire or call 911, according to police. Instead, he watched the fire grow larger then jumped the fence and left the area.

The manager of a car repair business next door used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire to the back patio.

Valenzuela was arrested Monday. He told police that he set the poster on fire because it was a male revue poster showing men with their shirts off and he did not like that, according to the court papers.
