A maintenance worker carrying a hand drill caused a brief scare Monday afternoon at Brandon Regional Hospital.
The hospital was placed on lockdown after the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received reports of a “suspicious” person in the facility around noontime.
Some patient family members tweeted and called media outlets saying someone at the hospital had a gun. However, a sweep of the hospital determined that the “suspicious person” was actually a maintenance worker with a drill, the sheriff's office said.
During the lockdown, patients and family members said they were told to stay in their rooms.
The hospital is at 119 Oakfield Drive in Brandon.
