An arachnophobe was left spinning by his own Halloween horror yarn when a spider lodged itself in his ear – before racing across his face and getting stuck up his nose.

Graeme Lougher felt the hairy creepy-crawly scurry into his ear when putting on a jacket to set off for work.

The 42-year-old was so troubled by the lingering intruder that he went to the doctor.

Warning: Arachnophobes you may want to look away now…

The GP pulled out the spider with tweezers but it then scurried straight up Mr Lougher’s left nostril.

As blood dripped from his nose and a squeamish nurse backtracked in terror, Mr Lougher struggled to sneeze out the spider as it clung on tight.

Eventually he snorted and blew out the 2.5cm (1in) arachnid into a sink.

Mr Lougher, a sculptor, is still shaken by the ordeal – and surprised by the size of the tenacious creepy-crawly.

He has been afraid of spiders since childhood but his old fears intensified after the ordeal. He now dreads seeing spidery decorations as the world celebrates Halloween today.

‘I’m certainly going to be so careful now when putting on every piece of clothing,’ he said. ‘I thought I was getting over my fear of spiders but this will set me right back.

‘It’s the worst time of year for it too, with all the Halloween decorations reminding me.’

Mr Lougher, of Loxwood in West Sussex, added: ‘I never got to see the spider before it had run across my face and shot straight up my left nostril.

‘It happened so fast. The spider seemed to get up as high as the bridge of my nose and kept moving in there.

‘I was trying to sniff it into my throat and finally managed to blow it out, landing in the sink. It felt horrific.’
