Not sure if anyone else knew about this, but Amazon has a service called Amazon Smile which is at: smile.amazon.com

If you buy stuff from Amazon (which I do a lot), and you enter thru that portal, Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase (not a lot, but it's something) to the charity of your choice. They have a ton to choose from if you search. I found the rescue group that we adopted our Great Dane from and chose them as my charity.

Pretty cool feature and it doesn't cost you anything at all. Good way to donate stuff if you were going to make a purchase anyway.

They're charging sales tax in GA too, but they're still cheaper and more convenient than running around trying to find what I'm after in stores and other websites.

I chose GiveAnHour.org. They ask mental health professionals to donate an hour to provide counseling services to military families. In exchange, the persons receiving the counseling pay it forward by volunteering at veterans organizations.

Sales taxes are by state/locality here. There is no national sales tax.

There is no national tax. Some states have passed legislation requiring on line retailers to collect the taxes for the state the same as local retailers are required to do. Interstate commerce laws say that on line retailers are only required to collect the tax if they have a physical presence in that state. Thus the controversy.

Ok thanks....when I was talking about our 5%, that's a provincial tax. Up here some provinces pay only provincial tax while others get to pay a combined value. I think Ontario pays both provincial and federal tax on stuff
