Though her MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) performances were tame in comparison to her controversial VMA twerk-a-thon back in August, Miley Cyrus still managed to be the most talked-about artist on the Amsterdam stage.
The 20-year-old former Disney star took to the stage to accept the award for Best Video for her hit "Wrecking Ball" (directed by Terry Richardson), and on her way to the microphone, she lit a joint onstage.
Marijuana is legal in Amsterdam, and Cyrus seems intent on taking advantage of that fact. Before the show began, fellow chart-topper Katy Perry tweeted, "For tonight's performance of UNCONDITIONALLY on ?@mtvema? I will be letting the LIGHT in & then making you SHINE! ?#dontneedtobehighforthis?."
Cyrus replied, "@katyperry @mtvema but you may want to be," to which Perry responded, "@MileyCyrus #afterparty."
Sources tell Us that Cyrus was smoking backstage throughout the night. A show source tells Us, "No one was expecting it to happen. It was so brazen, so shameless. It was so uncalled for."
The controversial singer performed twice during the EMAs, opening the show with an outer space-themed rendition of her smash hit "We Can't Stop," and gave a raw performance of "Wrecking Ball" in front of a giant screen of her own face crying.
