DENVER (CBS4) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Denver has issued an alert for a man agents say has been seen on video sexually abusing children.

The same graphic videos are providing clues that could help the FBI hunt the man down.

“This is horrible and this does happen,” Kendra Dunn with Prevent Child Abuse Colorado said.

The FBI doesn’t know who the man is. They call John Doe 27. He’s been seen on video engaging in sexually explicit activities with a child. The images are being circulated on Internet child pornography forums. Agents worry there may be more victims.

The FBI has partnered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for “Operation Rescue Me” and the Endangered Child Alert Program. The goal is to identify images and audio clips from child pornography that can help rescue abused children. Since 2004 the joint effort has identified nearly 60 abused children and 17 predators.

“I do think it’s encouraging. They seem to be stepping up efforts around the child pornography piece a lot,” Dunn said.

Dunn applauds the FBI’s efforts

“We want to support them in their efforts to encourage people to report any little detail that you might know or see because that may lead to them identifying those people,” she said.

The FBI says John Doe can be anywhere in the U.S. and they hope minor details like a plaid chair seen in the video may shed some light on his location. Dunn said many times the small clues can break open a case, and every bit of information can help save the life of a child.

“If you think you’ve seen this guy, if you know him from the past, certainly we encourage you to contact the FBI,” she said.
