An Alabama teenager will be tried as an adult after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death and left his father paralyzed with a punctured lung.
Authorities in Marion County say the vicious attack took place Sunday night at Wade and Renae Montgomery's mobile home on Slaughter Pen Road in Haleyville.
According to Sheriff Kevin Williams, it was around 11:30 p.m. when the couple's 16-year-old son Travis suddenly began stabbing his parents multiple times.
The teen then stole his father's pickup truck and took off, leaving the two behind.
Wade, paralyzed by his injuries, was unable to move, and his cries for help remained unheeded until a relative finally arrived over six hours later.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Renae Montrogmery was found dead inside the home.
Sheriff Williams told reporters Travis had a history of conflicts with his mother, but had by all accounts gotten along well with his father.
Williams also said Travis tried to run away from home last year, prompting the involvement of deputies.
The high school sophomore was due to attend an anger management class the following day, but refused to go.
Deputies eventually tracked Travis down and apprehended him 12 hours after the incident.
He was booked into Marion County Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder, and was scheduled to appear in court this morning.
