Philadelphia could be the first U.S. city to ban 3D-printed guns, after the city council passed a pre-emptive measure “based upon internet stuff" on Friday.

It is unclear how the ban will be enforced because gun manufacturers are not prohibited from using 3D-printers. As the Philadelphia Daily News points out, individuals are already prohibited from making guns.

Philadelphia city councilman Kenyatta Johnson, who sponsored the bill, admitted he isn’t aware of any gun-printing 3D printers in Philadelphia.

”It’s all pre-emptive,” said Johnson’s aide Steve Cobb. “It’s just based upon internet stuff out there.”

The city council voted unanimously to ban 3D-printed guns on Friday.

The bill has yet to be signed into law by Mayor Michael Nutter.
