I figured I might as well make a thread to put my random crap in.

I popped my phone up into the rafters in the studio to see how it'd capture drums. Better than I expected, I thought I was going to have to bring it into Premier and edit the audio. Pardon my warmup :)

I listened to it with some headphones on and the audio is really good..thx man...at first I was listening to the audio through the phone and was like ugh, this sounds like shit, I am going to have to edit it to hear stuff...but then I plug it into some speakers and it sounds just fine.

I'll do it again once I have all the drum mics set up again and give yall a comparison :D

Here's a radio show with one of my ol teachers participating. Its a little long (84 min) but if you're up for interesting and whacked out stories...I've just been listening while I work. This guy is one of the few people I've met with demonstrable power-achievement. 3, maybe 4 people I have met with enough juice for me to feel energy fields (for lack of a better description) from.

(yes, this is full strength 'fbd-out-there' quality stuff  bit of max's personal story, like getting whacked by lightning when he was 6...stuff on practices from a lot of different traditions like tibetan, chinese, amer indian, hawaiian, egyptian...what's the point of it all...etc..I know most of you wont have any interest, but lost probably will...and maybe hal will listen to some of it )

 I know most people have zero interest in cultivating spiritual power....but some are curious enough that they just might make an effort next lifetime  light up a big fatty, turn down the lights, relax and have a listen. if you have any interest in the subject at all, its an interesting story & collections of data from around the world's spiritual traditions, from someone who was very skeptical about it until having seen and experienced otherwise unexplainable shit.

which by the way is the only way I came to accept that a lot of this shit is possible, by having experienced it. you guys know how skeptical I am about shit. but sometimes you experience something that breaks the mold in your head and you realize you have to step beyond what you thought was within the realm of possibility.

buncha scratchy bitch pots in this thing......but....

was able to take signal and go out from the computer, into 23/24 and hit the compressor, out aux1/2 over to channels 2 & 4 (lots of scratchy bitches, 2 & 4 were good and clean) for some EQ and then out aux3/4 back into the computer....

better than anything we've ever mixed, automatically. the 33314 compressors are absolutely amazing...light 2:1 ratio and then jack the gain up to 20....FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that's just taking what we've done in the box and just doing a quick 2 ch stereo master with it. fuckin a once we're tracking and bussin' signal groups around with it.

I am fucking STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

although the 8000s are extremely rare, so are the 5300 series broadcast boards...but the funny thing is the broadcast boards are actually tighter quality control and specs. big difference is grohl's 8000 has a million fuggin aux busses, mine only has 4.

plenty enough for our stuff... its the sound that's key. if any of yas are interested in the difference I'll pop up a couple samples.

already replaced a few bad wires in the snakes going to the patch panels

took the opportunity to play some old mixes after working at this for 4, 5 hours last night. we fuggin laughed at them, just like I said we would. old mixes sound very thing and harsh and you can hear the peaks in 'em. hahaha was it really that bad?

the only thing I am a bit perturbed about is that the pinout on the #1 connector doesnt seem to really match what the schematic says. but maybe it was the beer & weed. like fuggin group 1/2 appears to be master 1/2, master 1/2 appears to be aux 1/2, cant really find group1-2-3-4 then if that's the case...

these extra routing shits are what's fkn me over right now. and I have to DeOxit the flying shit out of the rest of everything esp the aux channels, they are noisy. Got a good 8 channel stem into the board and summed it there but since the auxes were in need of maint, couldnt get a proper signal on through to the compressor channels.

where's the damn XLR patch bay, hoss....we aint tracking through this until we get those!

and well next up,
I decided that since we basically only have 6 simultaneously recordable outputs out of this board, I'm going to recreate a bunch of these

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg114/joeblast/Neve/IMAG0862_zpsef187882.jpg

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg114/joeblast/Neve/IMAG0865_zps70f4caf2.jpg

these line amps are the final touch of gold onto the signal, but since the signals all aggregate, there's no presently available way to have more outputs.

so since we dont use the solo function on this board at all, all the soloing of signals we do is done from the PC, I am going to steal the lead from the solo bus, run it up to...either a DB25 or a 35 pin Pantion depending on how many I do (I will do a stereo pair first as a test) and then into a chassis that contains a bunch of these that I am going to build.

schematics rule...
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg114/joeblast/IMAG1297_zps7ab4689b.jpg

so I found a couple good little extras in the schematic on library of congress, that had the schematics for the 33415, and discovered why one of our line amps is hotter than the other: there's a resistor value wired into certain leads on both the input and output transformers that is a gain boost anywhere from 3-18db. ohhhh huhhhhhhhhhhhhreeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaally  I got excited, because that means 1- no line amp problem, the other half of the pair is probably in something we dont use, like...the solo or talkback amp, neither of which are used and 2- that means when I design this, it wont just have a volume fader on it, I'm also going to include 2 6 way switchable pots for each, each one wired with corresponding values on the schematic. And I also found where to wire a meter into it, too. the ones in the board route to meters if you switch it right, but their gain boost values are fixed, so I'm psyched to flex those muscles there

my only issue is finding the printed circuit boards - old ones are prohibitively expensive - I have a couple leads on who might reproduce them, I fkn hope they pan out, because I really dont want to have to get generic PCBs and frankenstein it

but FUCKIN A I AM STOKED. fugger will be worth sumbichin hunded if I do all 24 channels...not that I care about the value, its the sound....holy sweet bejeebus, the sound...ir re fucking placeable. you all joke about me moving to a cave, but if this thing ever blows up, I simply will not ever press a record button again  not after having my hands all up in the guts of the pinnacle of human achievement in audio reproduction....you just dont go back from that

You asked for my MRI results out of curiosity...

C5-C6: Posterior disc osteophyte complex, contacts the cord but causes no cord deformity. There is mild bilateral foraminal narrowing.

C6-C7: Posterior disc osteophyte complex without cord deformity and with mild bilateral foraminal compromise.

C7-T1: Posterior disc osteophyte complex with no deformity of the cord and with bilateral, right side greater than left, foraminal narrowing.

IMPRESSION: Degenerative changes with foraminal narrowing at C5-6 through C7-T1. There is no cord deformity or signal abnormality within the cord at any of the visualized levels.

=================================

In terms of progression from 10 years ago, I think the bone spurs are new. It reads to me that the disc that was herniated is now dried up and I have developed bone spurs as my spine tried to compensate.

Hopefully someone has the original report, because I retained nothing, literally nothing, from my days in hell.

Tangent as an example. I made good money back then and we had a decent sized collection of nice crystal. There was a property agreement that specified who got what. One day the entire cabinet was cleared out (along with a large portion of the house), and there was a locked storage trailer in my driveway. Upon inquiry, I was told my crystal was packed and labeled and she pointed at the boxes. I didn't open them for about 2-3 years. When I did, they were full of the cheap target glasses we used for parties and coffee mugs. You get the picture.

ow, again, you poor bastad!
I hear they have laser surgery they can do for bone spurs these days. sure beats cutting you the fug open! It seems like if you can get those taken care of it'd help immensely with the acuteness - but the thing is, it doesnt really give too much detail on the bone spurs, that's disc info. I dont know if you've tried taking glucosamine or anything, but things that nourish the joints will help with this condition.

you are going to need to perform exercises to combat this for the rest of your life, bro. I'm sure you already know that...but dont sell yourself short on how much diligent and proper exercise will do for things like this.

it is literally the difference between superman and cripple, for me

the foramina is the cord-space...that should open back up a bit by way of the antiinflammatories but things like that dont want to get better if there's something sitting there pissing them off, like a bone spur. I hope they can laser them shits off for you, dude.

I was hoping to share some music sometime soon...I was going to share that last song this guy did (one song? lol. ok, greens is greens) but then the kid doing vocals came in, and...oh good lord. no I dont ever express these things to clients, but I was sitting there going oh man johnny...its like someone sticking keys in your side when I know I could walk in and outperform, when I'm not really a force to be reckoned with in the area to begin with.

feed the pigs, some of you guys will like, I'm sure. its getting mixing done now, and the singer has to come back and redo his vocals proper, but it should be really good when its done. I have other stuff from before this, but honestly, anything pre-neve I consider to be an audio turd and I dont really share them with people. my buddy will hand some certain things out like that Payback track, but...its still lacking that thickness, imho.

looks like idiot excuse's drummer is gone...? too many trips down south, perhaps, and maybe his wife's been equating band activities with reasons to have to go south , who knows. but knowing certain info, it makes sense why he was too slow too often. unfortunately it got to the point where even I wanted him out of the band too. I love the dude, but being in a band with someone is....you've got to be able to get along on a level past normal friends, there needs to be professional working relationship...that's why so many bands break up, because the people get to know each other and their work ethics and habits, and invariably it almost always happens that some people dont want to work with others. we already have a replacement in mind...but...I dont think that's going to make my vocalist for the band all of a sudden get any better. that's another one of those...here dude, see if you can play my bass lines and I'll destroy your vocal performance :slap:

at wits end, trackin some drums tonight... I still have a couple more drums to tune. (because apparently noone on earth besides me knows how to tune a drum? I swear its that bad.)

diggin on that Snark tuner, I just gave my boy one for his birthday (sure it was in feb, but he's been at college) and I restrung a guitar in record time last night. couldnt really say how long since it included a fretboard polish job and oil quench , but once I got to putting strings back on, it was done in like 5 minutes. thumbs up on that lil clip on tuner.

right, happy easter? its kinda funny how the vast majority of people around here dont give two shits about (strictly) christian holidays any longer.
